1984 BMW R-Series

This 1984 BMW R80RT is in very nice condition. I purchased this bike 3 years ago after being bike-less for quite awhile. I've taken it on a couple long rides and it performs like a champ. I did a 1,000 mile tour fully loaded with luggage and a passenger and it was just beautiful. It's what these bikes were built to do. A very reliable, classic looking ride and I'll be sorry to see it go. But... I succumbed to the call of shiny new metal last fall and I just don't have room in my life (or garage..) for two bikes. The bike starts easily and runs well. I've replaced the battery and the windshield (the original was still on the bike and was very scratched and kind of hazy). Before buying the bike I read a bit about these old airheads having issues with clutch splines. Well... this past fall the clutch went. So you're getting a bike with a brand new clutch. I think there are maybe 10 miles on it. That's a $1,000 expense you won't have to worry about any time soon! The bike runs well and is cosmetically in nice shape. It is a 26 year old bike however. Don't expect it to look like it just rolled off the showroom floor. There are stone nicks etc.. in the fairing. The BMW logo on the rear fender has kind of disintegrated. (I think they sell replacements.) The rear tire will probably need to replaced this season some time. But overall this bike is in great shape for its age. I get asked about it all the time. I would not hesitate to get on it and do another 1,000 mile ride tomorrow. The auction has no reserve. It's time for this great old bike to find a new home.
