Vehicle Detail
Original 57 K Monaco Orange 1969 SS 396 Chevelle I found this car last summer where it sat some 30+ years, towed it home, got it running and have used it for my driver until I could find time to restore it. I have 9 projects ahead of it so decided to sell it in its un-restored condition. I have put a little over a thousand miles on the car since I got it running. This car is so powerful it will smoke the tires at any speed! This paint code: 72 Monaco Orange, is very rare and was only available with the SS option. It is coded appropriately on the trim tag. When special ordered on a non SS optioned Chevelle the paint code would show two dashes - - before the paint code or the DuPont paint mixing formula. [see trim tag]. This color is known as Hugger Orange on the Camaro and Corvette. Rare options include Numbers matching car Bucket seats Center console Floor shift Air condition Rear defogger Remote mirror [original mirror missing] Factory speakers in kick panels w/ original grills Turbo 400 automatic transmission w/ shift kit 12 bolt posi traction rear end [original posi sticker still in trunk] Hide away wipers Tinted glass Rare Factory tach and gauges Nostalgic aftermarket parts include: 15 x 8 Corvette rallys w/ derby caps Under dash gauges 8 track am/fm radio Accel coil and wires Cal custom ? valve covers and air cleaner Headers Edelbrock intake Dual exhaust Everything else on the car is original. The car runs and drives well but needs total restoration. All sheet metal, chrome, emblems and interior are original. Vinyl top was just replaced and glass resealed. All gauges, lights and accessories work except horn. The numbers Block 3955272 CE964888 = 396 counter exchange [replaced under factory warranty because of defect] Date C-5-9 = April 5,1969 Trans CC69 15511 Turbo 400 Distributor 1111497 = 396 325/35 HP Carb 29201 ED 0779 [not sure if this is correct for the car] Heads : I have not disassembled the engine but I took a picture of the number when I first got the car and this is what it looks like to me 3931068 date C-5-9 = April 5, 1969 this is the number for a square port head [see picture] possible 375 Hp engine ?
