Up for auction is a 1981 VW "LX" pickup truck. It is powered by a 1.6 liter diesel and backed by a 5 speed manual transmission. The engine is not original and I don't know how many miles are on the engine. I purchased this from a friend, did a bunch of work to it and then put 4000 trouble free miles on it as a work vehicle getting over 35 mpg with it. It runs comfortably at 60 mph all day but will go 65-70 without a problem. The diesel injection pump was resealed, new glow plugs installed, new lower controll arms installed, new hoses, new rear brake cylinders, new master cylinder, new belts, a few gaskets and it was timed correctly. It runs great and it has been reliable transportation for me. Since it is an LX version it was factory equipped with air conditioning. These are great little vehicles and a blast to drive. It has an alpine CD player with good 6X9's but they are just sitting on the floor behind the seats. They need boxes to sound good. There are some extra parts pictured that go with the truck. I am selling this because it needs some maintenance and I have far too many projects. I hope somebody can give it a better home. Now the bad...the paint is shot, the drivers seat is bad (as seen in pictures), it needs another universal joint in the steering (spare included in extra parts), it has a bad ground to one tail light, it has some dents in the back of the cab and it suffers from someone elses poor repairs to the lower door corners. This was used as a work truck for years so the bed is banged up and has at least one small rust hole in it. Like I said, I have put over 4000 miles on it as is and I'm sure it will keep on driving but to be completely safe it needs a few things listed above. These don't come around often so don't miss out. The AC does not have a charge so I have never turned it on as it may damage the compressor. I would assume it needs new o rings before it can be charged. The headliner sags...my head usually holds it up. The wipers work as well as the heater. Please keep in mind that this was a work truck and has over 185,000 miles on it. On Apr-27-10 at 19:19:15 PDT, seller added the following information: I did not drive the truck in the winter and the turn signals wouldn't work today. They worked in the fall but not now. I had this problem before and fixed it by cleaning the terminals on the turn signal flasher.
