This restoration keept the original classic look, while upgrading safety, performance and mileage. To make it safe and fun-to-drive on todays roads, we put in a Rancho Pro-Street Transaxle Super Diff with Aluminum Side Cover, Welded 3-4 Hubs and Hardened Keys. To maintain a respectable demeanor on the freeways we installed a 1776cc engine, built by Gary Drennan at Gary's Aircooled Service in Raleigh. The engine was modeled after Hot VW's mileage motor series, to provide maximum fuel economy while boosting performance. Original style interior installed at Auto-Interiors & Tops of Raleigh. For Safety, modern retractable 3 point seat belts in front and standard belts in back have been added. Restored 1960's German Blaupunkt Dortmund (Frankfurt) radio from Mattias Klassen, Germany. The original wiper switch has proven to be intermittent and requires a wiggle to work (new switch is on backorder from Wolfsburg West). There's a 2mm lump is on the left rear fender that does not show up in the photographs, this was caused by a small rock thrown up by the tire that hit the inside of the fender, no paint was damaged. The radio is wired to operate when the key is in the off position, this is not original to the car but I like it that way because you can listen to the radio with the key off, to restore it back you simply need to move radio power connector to the next lug on the power block. The original glass in the pop-put windows has some slight hazing around the frames if you really look close. Good luck bidding, this is an Excellent car and deserves to go to a good home. Volkswagen also had a true convertible top and is called such. Later VW's had a smaller metal sunroof. This original ragtop opens and closes along aluminum rails screwed into the metal frame opening. The top rides back and forth upon small wheels for smooth operation. The chrome handle closes and locks the top in place. It is water and wind proof, unlike the convertible...
