Vehicle Detail
1988 Saab 900 Turbo Convertible 88,620 miles 4 Cylinder, Automatic transmission, Leather Seats, Heated drivers seat, Power mirrors, AC, 12-disc changer in trunk with remote. We are the second owners. We purchased the car in 1997 from the dealership where it was originally sold in 1988 (Contemporary Motor Car, Erie PA). The car had 51,037 miles on it when we purchased it. In 13 years we have only put 35,000 miles on it. I have the original sales receipt, our sales receipt, and all of the original manuals. The original owner was a Dr in Erie, PA. Car has been garaged kept it’s whole life. I think it was driven one winter by my wife. Other than that it has been stored winters. We have put less than 900 miles on it in the past 3 years. We have 3 kids that are 5 and under so we just don’t have time to enjoy it. I hate to see it sit so it’s time for a new home. We had an all new transmission installed about 7 years ago. Price including installation was $3700. Unfortunately I lost the receipt for the transmission work. We have moved 3 times since it was done and lost the paperwork somewhere along the way. However, it was installed by Allegheny Transmission in Warren PA if you wanted to check on that. Pros are: New since we bought it = brakes, rotors, master cylinder, tires (85-90% tread left I would say), plugs, wires, rotor, complete exhaust system, all new transmission (not just rebuilt, all new), runs and starts perfectly. Cons are: Electric top does not work. I had an ex-Saab mechanic tell me he thought it just needed new hydraulic fluid but I have not had the work done. His guess was about $200, but that was a long time ago. I put the top up and down manually when needed. As you can see in the pics there are a couple bad spots forming. There is a small bubble forming near the gas cap, 2 small paint cracks forming on each side of the trunk, and the bottom of the doors and rocker panels could used touched up. But for the most part the paint job looks brand new. People are amazed when I tell them it’s an ‘88. So there you have it… the good and the bad. Basically you could use this as your daily driver and not have a single problem for many, many years. I would not hesitate to drive it across country right now. This is a solid car. If you contact me I could e-mail you another 30 to 40 pictures. $250 down payment through Paypal, cash upon pickup. Thanks for looking!
