1985 Honda CR 500 – Nut and BoltFrame Up Restoration This machine is the most gnarly of all the Honda CR 500’s, the 1985 model. This was Honda’s first watercooled big bore and it was a beast! Many of the testers at the time felt it was overpowered and Honda tamed the engine down for all the later models. I’ve always been a huge fan of Honda’s and have devoted a great deal of time tracking down some of the special bikes of the 1980’s and early 1990’s. I bought this machine already restored several years ago and have ridden it one time down the block before displaying it. I had to feel the raw power and torque. This thing is terrifying, it’s nothing like the smooth modern 450’s of today. The men who raced this machine were animals. It’s not forgiving and will stand straight up in any gear. It received a full frame off restoration every nut and bolt has been re-zinced, the motor was rebuilt top and bottom, and the suspension was completely re-built. It looks like it just came off the showroom floor, except for the white paint on the clutch cover. I didn’t want to re-paint it so I left it as is. I’m only selling because we are moving to a smaller home that won’t have room for a shop so I must sell my prized bike collection. All of my bikes have been kept in an air conditioned garage / showroom at my home in Scottsdale Arizona. I spent years collecting the best examples of my favorite bikes. This bike does not have a title, it will come with a bill of sale. I can get it titled if it’ important to the new owner, but the buyer will be responsible for the additional expense of $500.
