Vehicle Detail

2003 VW Jetta Wagon ALH TDI with 5-speed manual transmission A workhorse commuter with plenty of life left! I have decided to sell my beloved Jetta. I bought this car in June of 2015 from the gentleman who purchased the car brand new. I bought it as a commuter car to get to and from graduate school (120 mile round trip). It had 227k when I bought it and now it has 284,xxx miles on it. This car has NEVER given me a problem in the time that I have owned it. It is extremely reliable, drives down the road straight and smooth, and is fun to drive! My wife and I just got back from a 1100 mile round trip to PA to visit family with it and it performed great as always. Below I have all the details about the car and the work I have done to it in the time I have owned it. Exterior:The car has some scratches and dents in the original black paint but still cleans up great for the age and miles. There is some rust on the hood and small amounts inside the lip of the rear hatch but other than that very clean. I have not done much to the exterior other than swapping the original 15 inch wheels with some 16 inch VW wheels and I think they really set the car off (they are not perfect by any means). The car also has four brand new Douglas tires on it with a fresh balance and alignment. The sunroof had been sealed shut with silicone by the previous owner due to minor leaks. I recently got the sunroof opened up and cleaned the drains. So far I have not noticed any moisture in the car, but there is still silicone residue around the sunroof glass. Early on I replaced the front fenders with junkyard replacements from a gas car (diesel fenders had the inside rust problem due to the foam insulation). Interior:The interior is all black and has the velour seats and all power options. All the power windows and locks work as they should. The sunroof works as well. The inside cleans up well for the most part and is free from tears and cracks. The center console is a tan console painted black I installed to get the two large cupholders (much better than the slide out ones). I replaced the glove box as well, and it shuts as it should, but does not have the inside light. The armrest latch does not work (typical) even after trying to fix it. The trunk floor cover is missing as well. I recently swapped the velour fabric cloth panels in the front doors with black leather panels (the fabric ones were falling apart). I also reupholstered the headliner, and it turned alright but not perfect. I just fixed the HVAC vent door issue (common on these cars) that was causing it to blow foam out of the vents so it will never happen again. Lastly, a set of monster mats protect the carpet floor. Chassis/Transmission:The brake pads and rotors are brand new all the way around. The front wheel bearings were replaced as well as the hubs, outer tie rod ends, and lower ball joints. The biggest upgrade to the car is a brand new Sachs quiet clutch kit that uses a solid mass flywheel, a new throwout bearing, and clutch fork. The pedal is extremely light and the car shifts great, and makes no noise! (much quieter than the failing DMF it replaced). Engine:The ALH in this car still runs very smooth. The engine is bone stock and has a new set of glow plugs and glow plug harness, mass air flow sensor, all new vacuum lines, and N75 vacuum valve. The only very minor issue I have noticed is that when you first start the car after it sets for a while it will lope for 5 seconds and then clears right out. The EGR and intake manifold are all very clean on the inside. The muffler has been removed and a turn down put in its place but the rest of the exhaust is stock. It sounds better than stock, but could use a longer tip that exits behind the car to reduce the minor drone. Timing Belt:This car has had two timing belts in its life. The previous owner neglected to replace the original belt and it finally broke at 172,000 miles when the engine was idling. The belt was done, and the head was pulled off to fix some minor engine damage at that time. I have receipts for all of this work if you have any questions. I bought the car with 227,000 miles, and at 270,000, I replaced the timing belt myself as well as all the other necessary components (water pump and pulleys). The car has run perfectly fine since (14k+ miles) the second belt. The only thing I did not do was use VAG-COM to set the dynamic timing. If I were to keep the car, I would purchase the correct cable to get this done. As much as I would like to keep the car, I no longer have a need for it and I hate to see it sitting still at my house, I would rather see it get driven by a new caring owner. My wife has a newer TDI and we cannot justify having two. I have put a great deal of work into this car in the time I have owned it. I don't have receipts for everything, but the receipts I do have total over $1,500 in the last 12 months. All parts were sourced from a reputable supplier of VW and TDI parts. All the work was done by myself. This car is ready to go! The car also comes with some extra parts I have laying around for it as well as two good tires if the buyer desires. I also have the original owner's manual, the original window sticker, and a file of receipts. Overall, this has been a great car to own and drive. I would like to see the car end up in the hands of a new caring owner that appreciates what this car is, a safe, dependable, fuel efficient, German-built wagon! I have hauled large engine parts, a tractor tire, and a computer desk with this car, it is a workhorse. My best tank was 55.2 MPG but the car averages 45-50 MPG consistently. Shipping: While I prefer local pick up, I would be willing to meet the buyer after payment within 200 miles of zip 28464. I am also willing to meet anyone between Eastern NC and PA on my schedule. Please contact me with any questions, thanks for looking!
