Vehicle Detail

1987 Porsche 911 Carrera targa Restored and Restyled Description This 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera targa has been restored over the last couple of years with retro styling modifications that tap into Porsche's racing heritage. The original mileage was 125k before restoration. Since completion in May of 2018, the car has been driven approximately 700 miles. This unique 911 is sold with a clean CA title and receipts for all the new parts, machine shop, tires, corner balance/wheel alignment, and CA smog certificate. The entire build with details is written up on pelicanparts forum, and a complete list of all replaced and refinished parts with receipts is available. Mechanical Restoration Engine The restoration started with having the top end of the engine rebuilt due to a couple of broken dilavar head studs that are prone to failure. This resulted in not only having the studs replaced but a valve job was performed, the cylinders were honed, the pistons cleaned, and new piston rings installed. All gaskets, seals, oil lines and hoses, sensors, and timing chain ramps were replaced. Since the 87 model already had increased factory performance enhancements and had an extra 10 HP from the year before, the engine was kept stock with the exception of turbo style camshaft line fittings for increased oil pressure. The desired G50 Getrag transmission with limited slip differential was cleaned and had an oil change. A new updated clutch was installed along with new master and slave cylinders. All engine sheet metal was powder coated before installation and a new engine bay insulation pad was applied. Picture of the actual engine after the rebuild is completed. Suspension and brakes All suspension and brake components were either replaced or rebuilt including bearings, bushings, rotors, calipers shocks and struts. All original steel suspension parts were powder coated before installation. The ride height was lowered for better handling and the OEM shocks and strut inserts were replaced with Bilstein parts for aiding in additional performance. 17" Cup style wheels were added with new 255 wide tires in the back and 205 on the front. Adjustable swaybar links were installed that replace the fixed original parts to ensure zero preload on the torsion bar. After the installation was finished, the corners were balanced and the wheel alignment completed by Mirage International in San Diego. The photo above shows only some of the suspension and brake parts that were replaced and/or rebuilt. Exhaust Most of the stock exhaust setup remains, but a new 1-in-1-out smaller muffler is responsible for the throaty sound of the car. A new catalytic converter is added, the tail pipe is exiting through the bumper and it's finished with a carbon fiber tip. .This picture shows the exhaust system after the engine was installed. The catalytic converter (on the left) is still the original which has been replaced since. The muffler shown in this photo (at the very top of the picture) is also the original part. Make sure you have the volume on. Exterior Restyling The pictures below show the retro inspired unique exterior with racing components. New light weight IROC style fiberglass front bumper was fitted and clear signal lights installed. The rear bumper features RUF style vents along the its bottom edge. A fiberglass ducktail replaced the original decklid and manual Vitaloni mirrors were installed, painted body color. The original stainless steel targa bar was stripped and brushed for a retro look. The targa roof was recovered using German vinyl material and the inside new liner is installed. All new rubber weatherstripping seals were installed around the roof, and doors, and a new improved wider windshield seal replaced the original one. The door handles are also brushed stainless steel. New perforated aluminum grills were installed on the front bumper and ducktail, and a custom made louvered panel replaced the rear reflector for added ventilation. Custom aluminum covers were fabricated over the G50 torsion bars, and the side skirts were removed exposing the oil lines along the right side of the car. Custom DOT approved LED headlights replaced the original H5 units with clear Hella lenses over. The windshield wiper arms are refinished and new rubber grommets installed for waterproofing. The wipers are also Hella. Interior RestylingThe photos below show the custom interior work that included removing everything with the exception of the dash board, stripping the floor from the original asphalt and applying modern sound deadening material below the new vintage look square weave style synthetic carpet in charcoal color. The plywood floor boards were replaced with drilled aluminum panels. The original steering wheel was replaced with a smaller diameter momo Prototipo with aluminum spokes and new shift knob. The attention to detail included aluminum insert on the shift knob and hand stiched leather wrapped aluminum door pulls on the RS style custom door panels. The interior was re-covered in leather with a new pattern that carries through the vehicle. The audio system and air conditioning were deleted and the tall shift surround box was replaced by a small piece wrapped in leather. This picture shows the aluminum floor boards under the carpet. Note the new shifter surround is not yet installed. The custom RS style door panel with a leather strap opener and leather wrapped aluminum bar pull. Note the pattern that carries through around the back seats Carpeting is continuous under the rear seat pad (vs the original that is glued down) Police outside of the parking garage where the "outlaw" is hiding For more information contact 858-5oo-6826 Terms and Conditions DepositThe successful high bidder is required to submit a $1,000 non-refundable deposit within 2 business days of the close of the auction to secure the vehicle.
