I took his 1964 1/2 Mustang Convertible in trade. When it arrived, I was extremely pleased. The quality of the restoration was incredible ... and if fact ... it was the best example of a first generation Mustang I had ever seen. I quickly told my new friend (who for many years has been very involved in the Classic Car & Hot Rod scene) that if he ever wanted to sell any more of his or his friends collector cars ... please call me.Well .. that was the beginning of a wonderful friendship and he and a lot of his friends, have been helping me acquire quality Collector Cars & Hot Rods ever since. However, when he called me about this Highly Optioned, Survivor, 1966 Chevelle 396 SS with only 29K miles showing ...that ... was in a North Carolina Museum for the last 26 years, I was flabbergasted !!!Here is the story. The car was built in Atlanta Georgia ... and .... sold new there. The paperwork I have with the car confirms a Georgia owner and a North Carolina owner prior to the last owner ... whom my friends purchased it from ... for me. I assume the Georgia owner was the one who bought it new ... but ... even though I have his name, address, insurance cards and insurance declarations page ... and ... his GeorgiaTag (which is still on the car), I was unable to locate him. However, I was able to find and speak to the North Carolina owner who was thrilled to hear that I now owned his precious 1966 Chevelle (he requested pictures ... which I sent ... and I will share his contact information with the new owner). He is a elderly gentleman who shared a incredible story about his wife purchasing the car for him as a 25th wedding present to replace the one he had ... Totaled ... when he was a very young man. There is a North Carolina Inspection Receipt (in the package of documents that will come with the car) where he had the car inspected in 1992 and it showed 28,965 miles. He later sold the car to Sonny Beachum who is a prominent North Carolina car collector and the owner of the Sonny Beachum Classic Car Museum in Wadesboro, North Carolina (see pictures below) where it remained for 26 years.There is a North Carolina Inspection Receipt (in the package of documents that will come with the car) where Mr. Beachum had the car inspected in 1995 and it showed 29,241 miles. Finally, you will note a Facebook posting below from the Sonny Beachum Museum noting that the car had recently been sold to my friend ... for me). My friend picked up the car .. and .. while getting fuel on the way out of town, the gas station attendant stated that he had seen loads of cars being delivered to the Museum .. but .. this is the first time he had seen one that was leaving. This car is one of the most "I N C R E D I B L E" Survivor 1966 Chevelle 396 SS's that you will ever find. I keep it in my garage right next to a $100K+ 1969 Camaro Z28 that is a near perfect restoration. However, this Survivor Chevelle (which is on my lift .. see picture below) is in equal or even better condition. Another thing, this is a "RARE" highly optioned Chevelle SS with it's 360 HP engine, Air Conditioning, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Power Windows (first one I have ever seen with this option), Knee Knocker RPM gauge and Rear Speaker sound system (again .. this is the only "Factory" option like this that I have ever seen). NOW ... A VERY IMPORTANT POINT AS YOU CONSIDER THIS POSTING As you review the Vin Number and the Engine Number below, you will note that they do not match. The engine number has a "F" stamp which would indicate the Flint, Michigan Assembly Plant and not the Atlanta Assembly Plant where this car was assembled. Why that is .. I don't know ... however ... it is the exact right motor (396 / 360 HP / 4-Speed) and even has the right month & year (04/66) in the engine stamp.But ... because of this I am "NOT" listing this car as "Numbers Matching". However, just today I was speaking to one of my other clients (who has a 130 Car Collection with over 1/2 of them being Corvettes) and he shared that he had a 1966 Corvette that had the same Engine Number Problem ... and ... also was assembled in 04/66. He went through the National Corvette Museum and found out that in April of 1966 GM had a major strike with the American Auto Workers and had to move engines around to keep production going. The Research Department of the National Corvette Museum determined that his Corvette was actually Born That Way! Just food for thought !!!There have been a lot of 1966 Chevelle's sold reciently ... but in my opinion ... none to compare with this one. The closest we could come in our research was .... one sold last year (2017) at the Indy Mecum Auction for $115,000 and it did not have A/C, PW and the Rear Speaker System this car has (also, see picture below).
