Vehicle Detail
1974 PORSCHE 914 2.0 Hello! I was the owner of the sunflower yellow 1974 914 2.0 that sold here on eBay a couple of weeks ago for $15,000. The new owner has received the car and is pleased as punch and plans on having it fully painted and doing some other things to it to make it truly his own. I am now selling my other 1974 Porsche 914 factory 2 liter which I purchased from the same retired owner here in the Sacramento area. He had both cars for over a decade and they were always garaged and kept out of the weather, and until recently, had not been started for 3-4 years. This Porsche 914 2.0 is a California car from new. It was purchased on December 11, 1973 by the original owner at Felton Porsche in Mill Valley, CA. The gentleman I purchased it from bought it years ago with the intention of using if for PCA autocross events. He ended up preparing it it do so, but never got around to actually autocrossing it. When he retired last year he decided he preferred the garage space to be used for his wife’s new car and his passion for bicycle racing (he has several high-end bikes). This is essentially a street legal 2.0 that is ready for autocrossing or to simply just enjoy on the street. It is nicely set up with new Koni adjustable shocks, headers with a Supertrapp exhaust system, wider wheels and 205 Dunlop SP tires, and sway bars in both the front and back. I also have additional parts for sale that came with the car that will be made available should the new owner desire to utilize them. These would include a welded differential, four Fuchs alloy 5-spoke wheels from a 914-6/911, a brand new, never used $600 Tarrett adjustable 1” (26mm) front sway bar with hardware, front and rear fiberglass bumpers, drilled pedal board, a Sparco racing seat and racing seat belts with harness bar and more! This 914 does not come with a spare tire or jack. The interior of my 914 is in great condition, other than three very thin cracks in the original dash (you can only see two when driving), its very nice! It is missing the radio/speakers and the passenger side map pocket. All of the glass windows are in excellent shape. All the lights work! The gas gauge and odometer do not work. The exterior still retains its original factory Bahia red color (L30E). It is in very presentable condition from a few feet away - nice and shiny, etc…. but definitely has its share of nicks, chips, dings and light scratching. Also, at one point in time, it incurred a dent on the driver’s door and a smaller one on the same side quarter panel - both of which were repaired, but not finished (used red primer to match, but did not paint them). Please see pics. Should you choose to use this Porsche as a “weekend warrior” on the autocross track, you probably don’t care about the less than perfect exterior condition. Should you decide that you want to use it for car shows or daily driving purposes, you will probably want to have it repainted. Mechanically it runs and drives great! It seems much more powerful than my yellow 2.0. Plus it sounds incredible at all RPMs with the headers and Supertrapp exhaust system. My mechanic said it may have been rebuilt recently and they possibly used a different cam which gives the engine a little extra kick. However, I have no receipt to verify this, but it would seem to be a reasonable assumption based on its stellar performance. The brakes are like new and it shifts great. This car handles incredibly well - the steering is so much more responsive than my 911! It truly drives like a little slot car. There is, however, a slight shimmy in the steering between 70 - 80 mph which my mechanic said may eventually go away - more than likely a result of the tires sitting for such long periods of time over the past few years. Prior to bringing my Porsche back to life, what little gas was in the gas tank was drained, and it was given a complete tuneup including an oil change with new filter, all new spark plugs, points, condenser, cap, rotor, fuel pump and fuel filter, new spark plug wires and coil, etc. It now fires right up and goes like heck! I have driven it about 30 miles since the service and its an absolute delight to drive, and I’m sure it will only get better over time when it is fully sorted. In addition, when the car was up on the rack he inspected it for any signs of rust. He said it was super solid with virtually no apparent past or present rust issues (the only thing he could find was some minor corrosion in an area of the engine compartment near the battery tray). As you can see from the pics, it doesn’t get much better than this for a 44-year old Porsche! Only in California! Overall, this 1974 914 2.0 checks all the boxes for being a fantastic entry level Porsche. It was built in the best year, retains its original Bahia red color from the factory, is the most desirable model (2.0 liter) and is a super dry California car from new that has just been fully serviced and runs great! Reason for selling….. My wife and I just finished having our vacation home remodeled and will starting an extensive remodel of our house here in Granite Bay very soon. Costs between the two projects are much more than we had anticipated so I will be selling this 914 2.0, and possibly a handful of other vintage German cars from my modest collection. My car is currently registered through January of 2018 and is, of course, titled in my name. Please feel free to view my Porsche 914 2.0 in person before the auction ends. I am retired and available to show it at your convenience. If you are unable to view my car and are uncomfortable with purchasing it - sight unseen - then please do not bid on it. Please note that I have a 100% positive feedback history on eBay over the years. I have tried to describe my Porsche as thoroughly and honestly as possible. However, if by chance I have have forgotten any pertinent details, please feel free to call with any questions you may have. PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL, SIMPLY CALL ME AT 916-220-2460. PAYMENT IN FULL IS DUE WITHIN 72 HOURS OF THE END OF THE AUCITON - NO EXCEPTIONS. When your cashiers check or wire transfer has cleared with my bank (Wells Fargo or Chase) then you may arrange to pick up here at my home in Granite Bay, CA (25 minutes from Sacramento). THANKS!REMINDER: I WILL NOT BE RESPONDING TO EMAILS. PLEASE CALL ME AT 916-220-2460
