According to Volvo Cars USA, only 140 of these Saffron C70s were imported to North America. Saffron was the launch color for the 1998 V70R, but was also available on the C70 HT. Very few were made, and even fewer had the black interior which, in my opinion, looks better, and definitely holds up better than the tan. 1998 is by far the best year for these cars. 1998 was the last year for the cable throttle. The 1999 and newer models have an electronic drive-by-wire throttle system which was extremely problematic and troublesome. Additionally, 1998 is the final year for the distributor-based ignition system which makes maintenance quite a bit less expensive as it has conventional spark plug wires, along with a distributor cap and rotor, rather than an electronic ignition system. Also, 1998s use the 4 speed automatic transmission which has been known to be virtually bulletproof. In fact, the engine and transmission configuration in this car will have no problem eating all of the miles you throw at it. We have seen several of these with 300, 400, and even 500k miles! Among those who know these cars well, 1998 is the year that is most desirable. The C70s are all front wheel drive, which is more reliable than the all wheel drive cars for obvious reasons. This is an HT model which means it's fitted with the 2.3 Liter High Pressiure Turbocharged 5 cylinder enigne which performs extremely well. This is a car with performance to match its looks. The front wheel drive is also assisted with TRACS traction control which helps prevent wheel spin on slippery surfaces like snow and ice. It also has a winter mode for the transmission which starts the car out in second gear to prevent wheel spin. The interior of this C70 is in very good condition. In fact, overall, this is one of the nicest interiors we've ever seen in one of these cars. The black leather seats are in nearly perfect condition for the car's age with no tears and virtually no cracking. They're also heated for your comfort. The car has the incredible premium sound system with 400 watt alpine amplifier, dolby pro-logic surround sound, and Dynaudio speakers throughout. It also has a power moonroof. The previous owner of this car was definitely a non-smoker. These cars don't even come with cigarette lighters, just power outlets. There is a cup holder that accommodates two beverages. This Volvo has dual front airbags, as well as front side airbags. The side airbags are part of a system called SIPS which stands for "Side Impact Protection System." The brakes are in good shape and the car stops as it should. The legendary 2.4 Liter low pressure turbocharged 5 cylinder engine runs flawlessly and is very smooth. The transmission also operates properly. It's very smooth, while still handling well. All of the car's accessories work including the power windows and moonroof. These cars rarely have mechanical problems. The timing belt HAS been replaced. The car carries a current New Jersey Inspection.
