Vehicle Detail
This 1955 Bel Air Sedan has been in our family for 33 years. Always garaged. Clear NV title in my name. We used to use it for Hot August Nights in the late 80s and early 90s, but recently have done a lot of work to make the last couple years more fun and reliable. The first thing I'll note, is the factory #627 Coral and Shadow Gray color. The dash was factory Shadow Grey. We just had it painted last summer for $5100 to make her really shine again. There are three coats of clear on it. The door jams where the door attaches and the firewall were not painted, otherwise the rest of the door jam where the door latches are, were repainted along with the rest of the vehicle. The side badging "Bel Air" and the crests still need to be installed since the paint job. I have the two crests in the glove box. There is no rust or rot on this car, even underneath the chassis is super clean. The interior was fully done many years ago and still looks great, but could use a little foam in the seats I believe. All electrical works on this vehicle: hi/lo beams, turn signals, horn, radio, non fresh air heater/fan, windshield wipers, dome light, glove box light, cig lighter, and brake lights. The door locks, both driver and passenger need to be adjusted to lock appropriately. We just keep them unlocked. The motor is the original 265 V8 with the Powerglide transmission. The engine was rebuilt before we bought it, so no real way of telling the mileage. The title always showed exempt since it was an older vehicle. It is still super peppy and has plenty of power when you need it. After running this car, I've noticed that oil does drip a little from the crankcase vent/down tube which I believe to be normal. This is what is brand new with the motor: HEI ignition and wires, spark plugs, new 4 barrel carb and air intake, aluminum intake manifold from Summit Racing, external modern oil filter, new aluminum radiator and hoses, alternator, fuel pump, and CPP power steering. The Powerglide transmission functions well, however I do believe it is nearing its wear limits. On occasion, at slow speeds in town, the trans will thump into gear. It never does it if you are on the throttle and it does change gears very well otherwise. I chose not to replace it as its still good, and also for you who are buying this car, I didn't want to lock you into new trans that doesn't correspond to your plans. I don't feel this needs to be replaced right away, but maybe in a couple years. The chassis is very clean, we did years ago replace all the front and rear bushings. New: gas tank, all rubber fuel lines replaced and ran new gas hard lines, and CPP power brakes and front disc brake conversion, Coker radial tires, and shocks. Tires have maybe have 1,000 miles on them. If you have questions or want a specific picture, please email me through Ebay and I'll give you an answer. Below are two videos. Copy and paste them into your browser and check them out. One is just to hear the motor idle and rev, the other we go for a test drive and hit the highway (7min).
