Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1987 Chevy El Camino. This car was purchased new by my father and was given to me in 1999. It has been a project ever since. Unfortunately I’ve run out of motivation, time, and money to devote to this project, so it’s time to pass it on to someone else. More Pictures: http://s259.photobucket.com/user/adamizme0/library/el%20camino It has Centerline Ventura 17x8 wheels and Falken Zinex ZE912 245/40ZR17 tires. There’s still at least 80% life left in the tires – probably more. The original 305ci V8 was replaced with a LM-1 350ci crate engine roughly 8 years ago. The car hasn’t been a daily driver since a few months after having the crate 350 installed, so it still only has roughly 10-15k miles on it. The automatic transmission failed shortly after the crate engine was installed, so I paid a shop to install a custom cross member, a Tremec TKO-500 (5 speed manual) transmission, and a custom drive shaft. The stock rear end didn’t hold up long after the Tremec transmission was installed, so it was upgraded to a Ford 9” rear end with 3.42 gears. While the shop was installing the Ford 9” rear end, I had them convert the rear brakes from drums to discs. I recently had an entirely new exhaust system installed. It has shorty headers, X pipe, and dual two chamber flowmaster mufflers. A LOT of money in parts has been thrown into this car!The drivetrain is solid. The car runs and drives without any major issues. I drove it to and from work for a couple weeks recently while I was selling my daily driver and purchasing a new daily driver. Being an older car, it does have some issues: · There are scratches and dings all over the car. Some minor body work and a paint job are needed. · The tailgate is rusting under the paint, so I had purchased a new one. It’s still new in the box and included with the car. Also, a polyurethane air dam is included. · The windshield was cracked while the car was sitting in my garage. It will need to be replaced. · I have the original hood in my shed. It needs minor work, but can be included with the car if requested. · The interior is all original. The dash, headliner, seats, and carpet all need attention to some extent. · The power windows work, but are very slow. The power locks work inconsistently. There was an alarm on the car with keyless entry at one point – The fob is still on the keys, but I’m not sure the alarm is still wired up to do anything. · I believe there’s a vacuum issue that’s causing the car to not run smoothly while cruising. It runs great when accelerating or decelerating, but is a bit “jerky” when trying to cruise at consistent speed. · The shifter rattles in 4th and 5th gears. From what I’ve read, it’s a common issue with Tremecs where the shifter needs to be tightened down with Loctite. · The entire A/C system was replaced roughly 10 years ago with a system to use R134 freon. It worked great until one of the hoses going into the compressor broke. It should work again once that’s repaired and the system is recharged. · The in-dash oil pressure gauge doesn’t work. I’m not sure if it’s the sending unit or the gauge, but had a direct oil pressure gauge installed instead of repairing. All other gauges work great. · It has an aftermarket stereo head-unit, amplifier under the passenger seat, and speakers behind the seats. There are aftermarket speakers in the dash too. Pick-up and/or shipping from 32258 is the responsibility of the buyer. I’ve tried my best to state and picture the condition of the car as accurately as possible. The car is sold as is with no warranty. Winner is to pay non-refundable $300 deposit via PayPal within 24 hours of end of auction, pay in full within 7 days, and pick-up car within 14 days.
