Vehicle Detail
The Bizzaro Triumph was in typical carport-find condition stored 25 years (not a barn find). To the average unexperienced and unknowledgeable person this Triumph is something strange and assumed to be of low quality. To an experienced eye the engineering planning and build execution in the 1970s to build a 2300lb rear trans axle front engine V8 car balancing out at near 50/50 weight distribution is far ahead of sports cars of its day. It will require some work/maintenance from storage. Dry rotted old tires are preventing it from being driven. This is Not a kit car. Starts everytime and runs very good. The exhaust note sounds GREAT like a race car. This 1967 triumph was shipped to Japan when it was new. The first owner was stationed at an USAirForce base in Japan. The 2nd owner, a airforce engineer stationed at the base bought it in 1968 and in 1970 had it shipped to the US where he built the Triumph into the one of a kind, very bizzaro MadMax twisted Corvette summer custom it is now. The Triumph has been primarily stored for about 25 years. The body is a not a complete fiberglass body. It utilizes the original hood, trunk lid and body with fiberglass laid over a steel heavy gauge wire-frame. The fiberglass body is not weak or flimsy . There are many sizablw cracks in the hood, but the wire frame is strong under it all.The targa top is a two piece custom made set. I have purchased all new seals for the doors and the top. The chevy 327 mill fires up easily. I have had to use a little spray of starting fluid a few times after letting it sit for a few weeks. It has a electric fuel pump that can be heard until it starts, then all you can hear is the engine. The clutch is strong and goes into gears/shifts with no problem. No one expects it to sound like it does when it fires up. The 327 chevy is a L79 clone and sounds like it should be on a racetrack with only straight pipe mufflers. Engine is a 67 327 Chevy, 4bolt main, Double hump heads, stock lifters/rockers & mild cam, quadrajet carb, revs quick and sounds awesome. It was built by a speed shop in Chandler Arizona. There is no smoke, ticks, tocks, or funny noises, just a great exhaust note. Clutch is a coild 10" sprun for max pressure. The clutch pedal is very stiff. There is a fabricated adapter on the bell housing that connects a overdrive unit. It is always in overdrive, making up for rear end gearing/small tires. The rear mounted Transmission-Axle is a Saginaw 4speed from a mid-engine V8 Corvair. This was very common with mid-engine corvairs. The shift throw is very short. The front brakes are from a Spitfire GT and the rear are corvair drums with a pressure regulator. The rear hubs were redrilled to have the same bolt pattern as the front. The master cylinder was replaced a couple months. Only the rockers have rusted. the underbody, floors or frame do not have any rust and are normal clean Arizona condition. The interior shows it age. This is just about everything I know so far about the Triumph. Basically it needs the typical TLC of a car that has been stored for 25 years - fluids, bulbs, cycle switches, shocks ect. The tires are badly flat spotted and dryrotted from storage. They can be driven on to test it but they are bouncing the car all over with the flatspots. The title is clear Arizona title from 1970. Although listed under the business here, the Triumph is privately owned and listed here for the owner. Please look at the photos closely for condition of everything. Thanks! On Sep-06-17 at 06:39:39 PDT, seller added the following information: Had a couple questions regarding tires and the availability of getting parts for the car. The tire replacement sizes 205/60 R13. There are tires in that size from $50 to $200 race comp tires. The small block Chevy engine parts are probably the cheapest parts for any engine available on planet Earth. Water pumps timing chains everything is cheap. This car already has the Camelbak fuel injected heads and a 4 bolt 327 block. The clutch, the Saginaw transmission are not rare by any means and parts for them or easily available. All of the hubs bearings brakes axles body parts and suspension are all still manufactured and easily obtainable for a low-cost. Regarding the body it looks like it needs a lot of work and some places but it is not that bad it is just basic body filler work where there are cracks in the body it needs to be ground down pasted with filler sanded and painted again. In reality they're probably is not more than 10-15 hours worth of body work needed. On Sep-06-17 at 06:43:30 PDT, seller added the following information: Regarding pick up and payment of the car. I can store the car for up to six weeks before it is picked up. I have to pay for the space at stored in so you will too, that cost is $75 per month. Payment is required within 7 days give or take. I'm flying out of town on the 20th and I prefer to have this all wrapped up before I leave. Cash payment in person is preferred but if you're going to ship it then bank wire transfer is preferred. I'll accept Paypal, however it's required the payment be the full amount, not amount with fees taken out. Feel free to give a call with any questions or comments 2488902504 This is a amazing car to the person with the right eye.On Sep-06-17 at 07:04:00 PDT, seller added the following information: Regarding picking up the car. I have room in storage to keep the car for about two more weeks. If you can't pick it up within two weeks it's not a problem I'll just need an additional $75 to pay for the storage space. Payment by cash is preferred if it takes you a little longer than a week to get here and pay cash that's fine. If you plan on paying cash you do not need to pay the deposit. Additionally if you plan on making the payment in full within a few days you can just do that and not have to pay the deposit. I can be pretty flexible about payment arrangements and what not I just would appreciate you give me a call or contact me within a few hours of the auction end. If you have any questions or concerns please call me 248-890-2504 There is a Facebook page for the car.
