Vehicle Detail
This is a 1996 Chevrolet K1500 Silverado with the Vortec 5.0L V-8 engine. I am the second owner of this truck and have had it since 2001, 16 years. It has been such a great truck which is why I have kept it so long. I finally decided to buy a new truck, only because I’m ready for something different. Options include air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, power door locks, CD player, power lumbar support on driver’s seat, delay wipers, PendaLiner bedliner and push button 4 wheel drive. 2 sets of keys are included with 2 key fobs. Carry-All floor mats are included. These are custom fit mats front and back. Original carpeting looks like new thanks to these mats. The tailgate has been replaced with a gate from a W/T 1500. It says W/T 1500 on the gate, but this truck is a Silverado, not W/T. The truck runs and drives great. Even at 75mph highway speeds, it drives great. I still take it on trips to my cabin 3 hours away. It has been reliable, even with 245,000 miles on it. The interior surprisingly is still almost like new. The exterior is finally starting to show its age. The paint on the hood is peeling some and there is some rust starting to appear along the bottom edge of the doors, above the right front tire, and the rear bumper. The rest of the paint is in great shape yet. I just put on 2 new Firestone Destination A/T tires on the back, about 2000 miles on them. These are $175 tires each. The front tires will need replacing soon. I’m an engineer and have taken excellent care of this truck. All my maintenance is documented. I have always used Pennzoil Ultra Platinum synthetic oil and changed it regularly. The engine runs great, does not burn any oil, and is very strong yet. I also have Amsoil transmission oil in the transmission. This oil is over $100 to fill the transmission. It’s been changed twice too. Transmission runs great. Front and rear differential oil has been changed recently. The transfer case oil also has been changed. Here is a list of the parts replaced over the past 2 years: 222,000mi, 9/5/15, New front and rear shocks (Rancho RS5000 shocks) 226,800mi, 2/7/16, New exhaust from engine all the way back, including the catalytic convertor and O2 sensors 230,000mi, 7/1/16, New u-joints on drive shaft, new front rotors and brake pads, new rear brake pads 232,900mi, 9/14/16, New Radiator and water pump 237,000mi, 10/5/16, New fuel injectors, fuel regulator, spark plugs, rotor cap 237,500, 12/15/16, New starter motor and fuel pump As you can see, most of the normal wear items have been replaced. Here is the list of know issues with the truck: 1) 1) The truck leaks oil and leaves about a 2-3” circle of oil when parked. I add a quart about every 1000 miles. I have not taken it in to see where the leak is coming from. 2) 2) The passenger window is disconnected because the window track needs replacing. It will go up/down but sometimes falls out of the track, so I disconnected the wire. 3) 3) Windshield has a crack along the bottom of it. 4) 4) One of the antilock wheel sensors needs replacing (about $100). Sometimes the antilock will come on just before stopping. Not an issue but I do have the antilock disconnected for now as it’s a nuisance. It can be plugged back in if desired. 5) 5) The front headlights are not as bright as they used to be due to the plastic getting cloudy. I added Hella 500FF brand driving lights on the front with a separate switch in the dash. They work very well. Everything else is working fine. The 4 wheel drive works good. The air conditioning is cold too. This is a very nice truck for the money. I’m sad to see it go, but it’s just time for something different.
