Vehicle Detail
I took the Magnum to Northwest Dodge in Houston in December 2015 as I have every 4 to 6 months for engine service. At that time, the engine was missing and there was a shimmy in the steering wheel. During the previous service at the same dealership, their tech had placed a spark plug wire on the exhaust manifold. I was told they had to replace all the spark plug wires and install a complete front end to repair the shimmy. Due to the length of time waiting for parts, my vehicle remained at the dealership for several months. Upon picking up the vehicle, I made it about a mile and there was a vibration coming from the transmission. I immediately returned to the dealership. They failed to create an invoice and it sat on lot without anyone knowing it was there to be repaired. A few weeks later, I called and was told the vehicle wasn't there. I advised them it truly was. Upon investigation, they found the vehicle and diagnosed it with a bad torque converter. It took 2 months to obtain the converter. Upon driving the car off the dealership property, it wouldn't shift out of second gear. I returned to the dealership after driving less than 3 miles. They kept the car and ordered another torque converter. Several weeks later, they said the new torque converter corrected the shifting problem but they found that there were some parts which must be replaced in the transmission before it could be released. Several weeks later, 23rd or 24th of May, I was called and was told the vehicle was running perfectly. I drove the vehicle off the dealership property and a few miles later, the engine over heated. I immediately stopped in a convenience store parking lot and called the dealership for a them to send a tow truck. While waiting, I checked the radiator reservoir and found it empty. I purchased a gallon of coolant and poured it into the reservoir. I was able to start the engine and it ran cool at idle. I drove off to return to the dealership. I got about a half a mile and the engine heat gauge was almost at the red line, again. Trying to protect the engine, I pulled into a parking lot and waited for a tow truck. On the 26th of May, they called to say the engine had over heated to a point that it must be replaced. I do not wish to repair the vehicle and prefer to sell it to someone who would like to repair the engine themselves or use the vehicle for parts. They told me the reason for the engine over heating was that the radiator fan did not operate. After correcting some electrical issues when I first took delivery, my Magnum has given me good service. It has been garaged since purchased and serviced at the dealership every few thousand miles. I have all the invoices for recent A/C replacement, Power Steering Pump, and a break job on all wheels and many more normal repairs. I’m very particular in maintaining my vehicles.
