Vehicle Detail
1989 Toyota MR2 VIN: JT2AW16J0K0146399 condition: good cylinders: 4 cylinders drive: rwd fuel: gas paint color: red size: compact title status: clean transmission: manual type: coupe This vehicle is currently located in CALIFORNIA, but is currently registered in Colorado Pueblo. The reason I am selling is because I need a bigger vehicle, currently purchasing some property, and the mr2 is not an ideal mover's car. Also I believe I'm in no position to hold on to it as an only car, it is very difficult to keep a 28 year old car in good condition without having any down time. 1989 toyota mr2 supercharged edition with 180000 miles I bought this car back in October 2014 in New Mexico for my graduation gift to myself since it was one of my dream cars. I guess you can consider this car a barn find but it wasn't kept inside one unfortunately, that is why the paint is not in the best condition, Mechanically and electrically this car is great. Its been daily driven since i had it. There are only two electrical problems on this car. 1. The instrument panel background lighting when you turn on the lights can not be illuminated. They work, but something keeps shortening out the head light switch which I replaced twice. 2. The driver side window switch does not work going down, but the autodown switch works great to lower it. Thats about it. I maintained this car because I bought it as a graduation gift to me. But I need something much larger and convenient. The damage on the left rear corner was caused by the last owner and someone backing into it. I'm in the process of buying a home, so I need a car that can haul a little more than one container. And something to play with later on. This car had a lot work done to make it good canyon/track ready car. Its highly modified and that scares people, but I have done my research to modified it while keeping it reliable. At the same time while performing beyond other compact cars. Believe me when I say this car is quick off the line. Just to compare performance I have taken this car to the track after all the mods were done. Let's say SRT8 jeeps, Mustangs 5.0, and SS Camero's could not catch this little car until about 80 mph. (3rd gear is a bit long) All fluids were changed regularly Coolant (green) 50/50 Engine oil (full synethic and Prolong treated) Supercharger oil (GM with prolong every 15000 miles) Transmission (Redline MT90 mix with Shock proof 1/4 ratio) Best Fluid for import transmissions Brake Fluid (TYP 200 Racing fluid DOT 4) Features Electric windows, and locks. Cruise control T-tops roof with original T-top covers Air Conditioning converted to R-134 Original T-top covers Pioneer stereo, with kicker speakers Modifications/OEM/Aftermarket parts Lots of work has been done to the car to make it really quick. Everything listed below was done under my ownership since October 2014. Also all original parts and authentic aftermarket parts and wheels come with the car including a car cover. About 15,000 or so back, the headgasket went out along with the clutch. While using genuine Toyota gaskets and parts I decided to do a little extra while the engine was out. OEM Toyota parts for head gasket workHeadgasketNew Cylinder Head bolts/washersCamshaft sealsRear main sealValve cover gasketThrottle body gasket Intake manifold Exhaust manifold gasketValve stems Modifications and descriptions Semi ported cylinder head: Both intake and Exhaust ports were grinded and fined to rid of rough factory molding finishes. This allows air flow to increase and have a smoother entry into the engine for a bigger power band 1986 Blue top 4age intake and exhaust cams: The intake and exhaust camshafts from the 1986 4age which is in the Corolla AE86 are the best performing of the 16 valve generation of the 4age. These camshaft switch the power of the 4agze to higher rpm. Usually the OEM 4agze loosing power at around 7000 rpm, with these camshafts the power keeps going until 8500rpm Bored throttle body with larger plate: Done by RC engineering in California. A bigger throttle body and plate allows more air into the engine for better power CX racing rx7 intercooler with 2.5 piping: Better charge cooling ability for higher supercharger pressure. Techno Toy Tuning 175mm pulley kit: Design and built by Techno Toy Tuning in California, this kit increases the boost pressure of the supercharger from the OEM 8psi to psi13. This kit included a 175mm main pulley, smaller idler pulley and belt. Was very to install and uninstall. SC12 supercharger (OEM) : Original factory supercharger that has looked through and had it's oil changed every 15000 miles. TRD headers: These exhaust manifold are specifically for the 4age mr2 AW11. Only a few were made by Toyota Racing Development are DISCONTINUED. I waited 8 months to get a set. These headers are for the naturally aspirated engine (4age). They did make a little difference on the 4agze in the top end. NGK spark plugs with STI wires: 8mm thick ignition wires, the best you can find beside custom made MSD ignition wires. With NGK spark plugs Stage 1 Exedy clutch: This a step above OEM clutch. It's rated at 250hp and 250 torque. Organic material, It's little touchy on the engagement, but handles the power really well. Polyurethane suspension bushings: The Original bushings were going out. All suspension component bushings were replaced with a polyurethane bushings are a harder more durable plastic material then OEM rubber. Offers a better feel in handling. Ball joints, tie rods, rebuilt rack n pinion, KYB shocks all around: Everything was replaced Two r us Ployurethane motor mount inserts: These motor mounts are made of the same material as the suspension bushings. The purpose of these mounts is to improve power delivery to the wheels, and handle. The less the engine moves about in the engine bay the more torque produced can used. Grunt box: This a special electronic device built specially for this model. Two electric engineers who are also mr2 enthusiast built this device to help compensate low fuel delivery at low rpm. It is kind of a requirement to have if you not are running a stand alone or aftermarket ECU. What this does is offer a cheaper way to gain back low end power. When running higher boost on this engine (4agze) the ECU (Engine control Unit) does not delivery enough fuel at low rpm causing a lean condition. What the grunt box does is use the cold start injector as additional injector to compensate the lack of fuel up until 3500rpm. When not connected, the car is sluggish until 3500rpm. When connected, the power is instant and carries all the way to redline. 1993 mr2 shifter, "Two R us" drop plate and solid spacers, with 1.3lb shifter knob: Believed to be the best shifting components to put on this vehicle Transmission was serviced twice with a mixture of Redline mt90 and shock proof fluid. Gates timing belt and tensioner: High performance timing belt Fuel pump: Airtex pump Water pump: Direct import "Two r us" rear tie rod kit: I still have the original tie rods, but I had to replace them as they became near impossible to align the car. "We have reengineered the rear tie rod design to make it more robust and greatly simplify setting the rear toe. Our tie rods use off the shelf front outer tie rod ends for the MKI MR2 (replacements are readily available), custom machined center sections made from 5/8" 303 Stainless Steel and Two piece stainless steel rod ends with super tight Teflon packing for the inner joint. All fasteners and spacers are either stainless steel or zinc coated plain steel." -Two R Us Ek 16" wheels, potenza 760e tires with 80 percent life left: Combination of gold and red. The tires are very quiet and grippe. This car actually drive really smooth and quiet minimum road noise . The engine is solid runs really smooth even with Ploy motor mounts. It does have a sight lobe to it due to the camshafts. I just recently did a compression test. Cons: It has a slight oil leak. Compression test: Engine temperature was 78 degrees, no oil or fuel in the cylinders. Cylinder 1 141psiCylinder 2 150psiCylinder 3 149psiCylinder 4 151psi Not bad results for 28 years old and 180,000 miles Toyota engineering for the win! None of the modification had never gave me any issues. Matter of fact the only issues I've dealt with was the 27 year old alternator that gave out on me twice and a defective clutch. They have been fixed I have way more pictures of the car itself on Photobucket, if you wish to see more including dyno video before the performance enhancements and after send me a message, I also have pictures of the engine work. Again I have all factory parts and wheels for the vehicle that come with it as well a larger supercharger. I'm the third owner with a clean COLORADO TITLE I have all original parts and wheels with tires as well. I have all reciepts of the parts that were put on the vehicleOn Aug-22-16 at 23:22:26 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE I just had the vehicle because dynoed many of you ask for a result difference in power with all modifications. The car in stock form made 135hp 130 torque in Colorado Pueblo at 4700ft alititudeThe car currently makes 172 horse power and 163 torque at the wheels at 76ft above sea level. Thats roughly 200 crank horse power comparing to the 145 factory horse power. Again, if you wish to see video of both dyno runs please message me.On Aug-23-16 at 21:48:41 PDT, seller added the following information: DYNO VIDEO!!https://youtu.be/k8djJgQ11wgOn Aug-29-16 at 11:45:55 PDT, seller added the following information: Reserve is $5300
