Vehicle Detail

Car is beautiful and a real head turner of course. Folks are constantly asking us "what kind of sports car is it !" When out at a restaurant, we have a lot of fun watching people stop & walk around admiring it. It runs great, holds the road like it is glued to it, and takes turns like it is riding a steel rail ! Of course having sports car type suspension has a draw back.........it is NOT comfortable for long trips. We drove it on a 1200 mile trip last year in two days and our backs were killing us by the end of the trip. Four hours is my estimate of a "comfortable" trip length in a Solstice. Maybe if new design foam seats were installed it would make a difference ? Had air-conditioning rebuilt last summer and it blows ice cold air now. If you want heat..the heater can cook you , but not sure it is a car you would want to drive in the winter. Currently oil change is 44% from next oil change due.....it does have an interesting computer that tells you things like that. The Solstice has a nice computer engine control system.....it does not care if you use High Test, Medium Grade, or 87 Octane fuel...it tunes the engine to the octane gas you use. Only difference is supposed to be the "power" and miles per gallon are better with premium grade. I personally have not noticed much difference in what ever grade gas I put in it and so usually use regular 87 octane unless I feel like giving the little car a "treat". Keep in mind that the car only has about a 12 gallon fuel tank and so is pretty inexpensive to "fill up" ! I have been averaging 22-24 mpg running around....28-30 mpg interstate driving . Car currently has a standard Solstice radio that has aux input connection for playing music from your cell phone or an mp3 player. It also has a single CD player and has Sirius XM radio system that works fine. You can activate it free for 30 days if if you want to see if you like it in a sports car......turned out we were not one of people that loved that type radio program choices and so did not renew at end of our trial subscription. But a new buyer will also get a "trial" period option from Sirius( far as I know they still offer that to any new owner of even a used car that has the Sirius system in it) ..... if you want to try the Sirius out. Car-fax has some issue that are obvious errors....mileage listing has typo's and so when you look at it you find the mileage is consistent and car did not lose 60,000 miles in one month and gain it back the next entry ! No lien exists on title. Car was a Lemon Pontiac buy back because the instrument panel had issues and was replaced twice by dealer and the original owner exercised their right to return the car to Pontiac. Pontiac then took car and replaced complete instrument panel system and dash ....it was then sold as used at auto auction because could not be sold as new. No further issues occurred with the dash and instrument panel for any owners after that. Yes it was in a wreck that damaged the right front years ago ...insurance company totaled car and it was bought from insurance company by a shop who then repaired and sold the car with the rebuilt title. I have found no issues with the job that the shop did . Tire wear is even, looks great, drives at 75+ MPH smoothly, & does not swerve when braking. I am pleased with the results of their workmanship .As I said, the only issue the wife and I have with the car is the comfort on trips, suitcase space, and so we want a car that has more room in it. Engine runs just fine, transmission works fine, tires are ok (See picture-but I think they should be replaced by next year?). Top goes up and down with very little effort(don't forget that Solstice's have manual tops), brakes are fine, A/C excellent & paint pretty good except for a couple gravel/road debris chips. I do have a little bottle of matching "chip " paint that matches paint of car that works fine for those little chip marks.Lights work fine, even the headlight "LED Rim lighting" I added to give car an updated look when driving down the road. While all works fine here in Florida, I make no claims on car passing a state like Pennsylvania's smog/car inspection for amount of brakes lining, tire tread, etc. Exhaust is a "tuned exhaust" and sounds great, has no leaks, frame is good, no oil leaks, and frame is good. One item I forgot to mention in the "issues" write up was that my remote key fob no longer works. I use the key to unlock doors. But the automatic lock and unlock system that activates when car is put into and out of park works fine. Dealer wanted way too much to "look" to see if he could find the remote fob problem and "maybe" fix it. Car has had the Pontiac ignition system replaced by dealer, per the ignition recall by GM, but now sure if that could be the issue with the fob system. I did buy a remote key fob system from JC Whitney that by passes the original door lock fob unit system....just never got around to installing it....it can go with the car. Since the doors lock and unlock as they are supposed to when you ou move the gear selector from "Park" to "Drive"(doors lock when you put car in Drive and unlock when you stop and put it in Park) it is clear that the actuator motors and wiring are fine. The car is sound and I have no fear taking the car on a trip around any Florida destinations...as long as less than a 4 hour drive ha ha. Matter of fact we drive it almost daily running around shopping, eating out, whatever. For that reason the mileage is listed correct as of now , but likely will have a few hundred miles more on it before auction is over. Biggest question I would think would be WHY sell it ? Answer 1 : It is only a two seater and we have been getting lot of company...our other vehicle is a pickup truck.........we need at least a four seater more than we need a sports car. Our home does not have parking space enough for 3 cars. Answer 2: At our age, comfort in a car is becoming important and driving the 8 cylinder pickup back and forth to Pennsylvania is expensive Answer 3: The Solstice gets great gas mileage (22-30 mpg)....but with the top down it has no trunk space left for suitcases...just room for a couple little "gym" bags? Note that I have car for sale locally and retain option to close auction prior to the end of auction. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concernsThanks for lookingBarry
