Vehicle Detail
White 2002 Subaru WRX Wagon 2.0L Turbo AWD Lost engine timing due to a failed pulley. Interference engine, so there could be some valve involvement. Car is currently not running. I was driving to work, had just left a stoplight and turned the corner (30 mph—light load). Heard a short rattle (sounded like I blew a belt) and the car began to sputter. Turned it off, immediately shifted to neutral and coasted to the side of the road. Flat-bedded home. Parked in March, 2016. About the car:This car is an *automatic* with a manual dash cluster (cluster was changed shortly before I purchased the car). I bought the car from a used car dealer in November of 2012 with ~116,000 miles on the odometer (approx 158,000 *actual* at the time of original purchase, based on VIN records). Odometer now reads 152,258 which is around 190-200K *actual* miles. Clean title (mileage change noted). Car easily passed emissions while running (paperwork is in car). No turbo issues; hit boost appropriately, pulled strongly. Car has aftermarket intake (AEM short ram), full APEXi exhaust (both were on the car when I bought it). Interior is good (except for missing glove-box handle... glove-box still works). Car has an in-dash pop out DVD player installed. This car was an absolute blast to drive. It corners well and has tons of traction. I never was able to get it stuck. I would be out driving at times when the only other vehicles your saw were snow plows. It also powered out of curves really well. It could be a fun project car with a bit of time put in. The auto trans WRX has a different (better?) AWD system than the manual: the Variable Torque Distribution (VTD) automatic transmission uses an electronically controlled, continuously variable hydraulic transfer clutch that works with a planetary gear-type center differential to control power distribution between the front and rear wheels. In steady state driving, the VTD All-Wheel Drive system splits the power 45 percent front and 55 percent rear. The slight rear-wheel bias enhances the performance-driving feel. VTD All-Wheel Drive monitors throttle input to account for weight transfer and responds to driving conditions to continually optimize power distribution on all road surfaces. All WRX models are equipped with a viscous limited-slip rear differential, which helps ensure that the rear wheel with the best traction receives the most power. Has some new parts in it: Transmission was fully rebuilt. It had a minor leak, so I had it all gone through and refreshed as I intended on keeping the car at the time. (July 2015) Radiator less than a year old (November 2015) Front brakes/rotors/calipers + new fluid (July 2015) Newer battery Newer outer tie-rod ends 3 year old rear brakes/rotors/calipers 3 year old front O2 sensor (Denso). New spark plugs (NGK) this past fall. Always ran full synthetic oil, as did the previous owner (so I was told... I verified that car did have synthetic in it when I bought it). Newer tires (3 years old) with plenty of tread Can't remember what else off the top of my head, but I tried to keep it in pretty decent running shape mechanically (changed fuel filter since it was probably due, fixed small leaks—changed valve cover gaskets/air oil separator gaskets, replaced vacuum hose to the boost controller solenoid). Known Issues: Small patch of rust behind rear driver side wheel well (painted with white Rustoleum).Larger area of bubbling paint behind the passenger side front wheel well. Gas door cable stuck in open position, so gas door doesn't latch (but does close). Front sub-frame could stand to be replaced. It is getting fairly rusty. It is just a bolt-on 'U' shaped piece of metal for structural rigidity. Hood has hail damage/dents (the only place hail damage shows on the car). *an extra replacement hood comes with the car (it is silver, so would need to be painted)*. Never got around to installing it. It is stored in the rear of the car, currently. One side mirror is black, one is white. I bought the car like this (it never bothered me, so I never matched them). Car is a 2002, so it has a few cosmetic blemishes. It looks fine from a distance but flaws are noticeable close up. On the whole they are pretty minor, but it is not a show car. It looks like a car with 200,000 miles. I hope that is enough info. I tried to hit all the key points (good & bad) as best as I know them. Car is located in Aurora, IL. Pick-up only, car will need to be towed (flat-bedded or dollied because of AWD). Thank you for your consideration.
