Vehicle Detail
1999 Service Honda CR 500 AF.The lightest, most powerful, custom off-road motorcycle available. It is the "genuine article" built by the only recognized source (other than the Honda factory itself for their FIM World 500 MX team ) Service Honda, in Hammond Indiana. It is not one of the many "one off -garage special" copycats. They take a new CR 250 Honda aluminum frame chassis and install a brand new Honda CR500 motor. The CR 500 AF from Service Honda carries open class 2-stroke technology a giant step into the future by mating the revolutionary Honda aluminum twin-spar frame with the power of a 500cc 2-stroke engine. The "cylinder porting" option (by Service Honda) was selected when new, and the power is simply massive, yet is still smooth with addition of a heavier fly wheel. It "just keeps on giving". Those "coming on the pipe" 2 stroke wheelies are a riot and can even be had in 5th gear ! Your buddies need to always wear their chest protectors. (...and be sure to buy a couple of extra rear tires when you are at the bike shop....!! You're going to need them) Suspension upgraded by Pro Valve. Carbon fiber frame and pipe guards are very cool additions and main "side" frame, and swingarm, have been polished and look incredible. The bike is 23 lbs lighter than a regular CR 500R and the same fit, finish and reliability as a standard Honda. For desert and recreational riding, it has the 3 gallon IMS fuel tank and "black plastic" set (fenders, sideplates etc ) for an awesome look. and also the required spark arrestor / silencer. The original "plastic" is also included, which is the smaller MX tank, fenders and sideplates and they have never been used. This is the lightest and most powerful dirt bike you can buy. Robbie Madison used the AF500 on his "world record" jump of 322 feet and the AF500 is the bike has been used by the Honda factory to annihilate the competition in the ( outdoor European) World Motocross Championship. The AF500 is a rare bike, and my two "CR450 buddies" described the one they rode (not mine) as "uncomfortably fast"!That said, it has a CR 500 engine that is very tractable and can easily be ridden in the woods. It has power even when it's "off the pipe". As I am in the auto racing business and had undertaken a gigantic project, I have been able to ride the bike but once since I bought it over 8 years ago. I have just kept it dreaming of the time I would be able to go again, as this is "the ultimate". Now that I have turned 60, the reality has set in that it needs a capable rider while I head off to do some vintage MX. After all, being crazy at 60, doesn't necessarily mean your stupid. The cylinder and piston have have been "freshened up" and have less than 1 hour of time on it. This bike has been constantly, thought about, upgraded and massaged at every chance. This is a California titled motorcycle from the ORIGINAL OWNER. It it has an out of date green sticker (2003) that could possibly mean it can be registered again, but you would need to ask. If it is, this is surely one of the last 2 strokes that enjoys this benefit. A new AF500 is $12,500. With the "extras" on this bike, you can add another $1200. With tax, that would be $15,000 "out the door". Please recall, this bike has had "0 hours" put on it in the last 8 years. This bike is a fantastic piece at less than half that price at $7499 "obo". ALSO.......examples of others... Last I checked,...Service Honda had used 2 bikes for sale on their "used bikes" page. One was a 2004 for $9500.....and the other was a 2010 and was listed for $11,500.
