Vehicle Detail
This gently used, unmolested/unrestored 1957 Harley Davidson Motorcycle has been stored indoors since the Nixon Administration (early 1970's) in the personal collection of a BMW motorcycle mechanic. 1 9 5 7 H A R L E Y D A V I D S O N "H U M M E R"A M E R I C A N "L I G H T W E I G H T" M O T O R C Y C L E This very rare and beautiful 1957 Harley Davidson Motorcycle is being sold with a BILL OF SALE only. However, a title can be applied for this vehicle which takes about 30 days in most states. Most eBayer's who follow my auctions know that I like rare and unusual automobiles and this wonderfully preserved 1957 Harley Davidson Hummer Motorcycle is no exception. While Harley's of this model and vintage certainly are obtainable, you very rarely find one that is gently used, mostly intact and not restored. This nearly 60 year old Harley Davidson has been stored in a heated facility and "unridden" and enjoyed as a static display since the early 1970's and it clearly shows. This is a perfect candidate for a straightforward and uncomplicated restoration which would enhance the value of this bike considerably! The bike is currently on display in a sporting goods store in Andalusia, Alabama (36421). A recent trip to Las Vegas' MGM GRAND CASINO/HOTEL Signature Shops has on display in one of their upscale clothing stores an exact mildly restored late 1950's Harley Davidson Hummer in the front window with a price tag of $17,500 and while I don't believe it is their desire to sell their showcase window center piece, I do believe that eventually an international customer enamored with the iconic American marque Harley Davidson would not blink an eye to acquire that wonderfully aesthetic and rare junior vintage motorcycle for a deserving son or daughter. While this motorbike would certainly be considered as "unrestored" it does appear that the sheet metal (fenders) have been superficially spray painted a long time ago (at least 40 years ago), but the shape and form of the panels are still in excellent shape. I can't say for sure that every original bolt or nut is there, but this is an exceptional and simple restoration prospect that might require no more than a week to restore. The frame looks to be in excellent, original condition, but please look over all photos to satisfy yourself as I am not overly familiar with vintage motorcycles. As mentioned earlier in my listing, the bike has been stored inside for over 40 years, and it was running when placed in storage by the former owner. Nothing has changed since early 1970's, and will be sold and delivered with four decades of dust and grease (patina) so I am selling it "as is where is" and is a rare opportunity to acquire a historic, beautifully preserved vintage Harley Davidson junior motorcycle. I will work to assist buyer with all reasonable requests concerning crating at my actual cost to be paid by the buyer in advance. All arrangements for pick-up, delivery, and insurance during transit will be arranged by the buyer and paid for by the buyer. The 1957 Harley Davidson Hummer in this auction will be sold with a Bill of Sale only. I CAN ARRANGE OR FULLY ASSIST IN THE SHIPPING AND CRATING OF THIS RARE VINTAGE MOTORCYCLE Harley-Davidson HummerFrom Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaUnrestored Harley-Davidson HummerThe Hummer was a motorcycle model manufactured by Harley-Davidson from 1955 to 1959. However, the name "Hummer" is now incorrectly used generically to refer to all American-made single-cylinder two-stroke Harley-Davidson motorcycles manufactured from 1948 to 1966.[1] These motorcycles were based on the DKW RT125, the drawings for which were taken from Germany as war reparations after World War II.[2] The RT125 drawings were also given to the United Kingdom and the Soviet Union as war reparations, resulting in the BSA Bantam[3] and the MMZ M-1A Moskva, later known as the Minsk.[4]Contents [hide] 1Model S-125 (1948–1952)2Model 165 (1953–1959)3Hummer (1955–1959)4Super 10 (1960–1961)5Ranger (1962)6Pacer (1962–1965)7Scat (1962–1965)8Bobcat (1966)9See also10Notes11ReferencesModel S-125 (1948–1952)[edit]Harley-Davidson Model 125ManufacturerHarley-Davidson Motor CompanyAlso called"Hummer" (current usage), "American Lightweight"Parent companyHarley-Davidson Inc.Production31,793AssemblyMilwaukee, Wisconsin, USASuccessorModel 165ClasseconomyEnginesingle-cylinder two stroke 125 ccBore / stroke2.06 in × 2.28 in (52 mm × 58 mm)[5][6]Compression ratio6.6:1[5][6]Top speed50 mph (80 km/h)[7]Power3 hp (2.2 kW)[5][8]Transmission3-speed foot shift[5][8]SuspensionFront: girder with rubber springs Rear: rigid[7][8]BrakesFront and rear drums[8]Tires3.25" x 19"[7][6]Wheelbase50 in (1,300 mm)[5][6]Weight170 lb (dry) Fuel capacity1.75 US gal (6.6 L), including 1 US qt (0.95 L) reserve[6]RelatedModel 165 Hummer Super 10 Topper Ranger Pacer Scat BobcatThe Model 125[9] or S-125[6][10] was introduced by Harley-Davidson in 1947 as a 1948 model.[10] The 125 cc two-stroke engine produced three horsepower, which was sent through a three-speed foot-shift transmission.[8]The front suspension used girder forks suspended by large rubber bands.Ten thousand Model S-125s were sold during the first seven months of 1947.[8][6] Despite largely being ignored by dealers, the 125 gained a large following among young riders, many of whom would go on to ride larger motorcycles.[7]The rubber-band front suspension was replaced in 1951 by a telescopic fork referred to as "Tele-Glide".[1][8]Model 165 (1953–1959)[edit]The Model 165 replaced the S-125 in 1953. The engine was increased in size to 165 cc.Hummer (1955–1959)[edit]The Hummer was added to Harley-Davidson's model line in 1955. It was a stripped-down basic model using a redesigned "B-model" engine with the old 125 cc capacity. It was named after Dean Hummer, a Harley dealer in Omaha, Nebraska who led national Harley two-stroke sales.[2]The Hummer was as basic as it could have been. It had magneto ignition and was sold without battery, electric horn, turn signals, or brake light.[1]Super 10 (1960–1961)[edit]
