January 1956 Wolfsburg Standard Volkswagen Bus Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE These Wolfsburg produced buses are becoming increasingly rare and difficult to find in original condition. This particular bus turned 60 years old this month! The Wolfsburg plant produced non-barndoor buses for barely 12 months making these buses a very rare breed. Lots of variations existed during this time period and it seems that no two buses are alike. Many of the one-year-only parts are intact, although there are a few bits and pieces that have been changed over the years. Mechanically, the bus is a driver. It was converted to 12 volts long ago. The 1600cc engine has recently been rebuilt and the exhaust system is brand new. The engine pulls strong and starts on the first try thanks to the Optima battery. The carburetor is tuned and the engine idles properly. The clutch feels great, and the shifting is very smooth including the first gear synchro. The entirety of the electrical system has been gone through and is fully functional including all interior and exterior lamps. The brakes are solid, although the bus does pull slightly to the right. This bus received and older cosmetic restoration to a driver-level standard and it still presents itself well. The interior is clean and tidy, although it does show some wear and tear. The seats were re-covered at some point in the past and look good. Much of the glass is original to the bus, and all side windows feature pop-out glass. The safari windows are reproductions made by Wolfgang. The paint is acceptable, although it definitely shows some flaws. All of the metal on this bus appears to be original and it has only minimal rust. One longitudinal has some rust near the passenger side front jack point. There is also some evidence of rust in the lower portion of the nose. The passenger side floor received and amateur patch job at some point and the battery tray has been replaced. Otherwise, the bus is dry and original. The floors are extremely solid as well as the body panels and doors.
