Vehicle Detail

I purchased this rare 1929 1 1/2 Ton Chevrolet "International" truck ten years ago from a "picker" who had just found it clearing out a huge factory warehouse in Wisconsin. He was told it was parked there many years prior and had not moved in decades. I was drawn to it because of the original orchard sprayer setup and oak water tank as I live on a property with a very old apple orchard. After carefully checking it over and servicing it including the fuel, cooling and ignition systems it fired right up. I proceeded to actually use the truck to idle around my orchard for a couple of years spraying our trees and even washing the driveway. The tank holds water great once "soaked" like an old boat. However, we had a freak cold snap one year when the truck was outside and it froze the water in the sprayer pressure tank and popped the corner off (see photo.) While this would be an easy fix to replace it with another tank I just decided to throw the truck into my warehouse because I was so ticked I let this happen. So I've decided since I haven't fixed it yet that I should just sell the truck and free up the space here. Some quick history on what the truck is: This model was new for 1929 and Chevrolet hung their hat on the fact it had the big six cylinder, a four speed transmission and four-wheel brakes. The engines were the first of the legendary "Stovebolt" sixes that have proven to be one of the best engines of all time. They called this truck the "AC" series "International Utility Express." This particular truck was built right down the road in Janesville, Wisconsin as indicated by the "21" prefix on the chassis number so it has lived within 100 miles of its birthplace for all of its 86 years. The coolest part about this truck is the orchard sprayer and huge oak tank. Even though it needs that new pump pressure tank (any cast iron air cylinder would work) the PTO driven pump still works like brand new. It is mesmerizing just to sit and watch it! Of course since this is a cab and chassis truck you could always put whatever you want in its place from a flatbed to a popcorn stand. Mechanically this truck is amazing. Even after sitting for the last 8 years or so with fresh fuel and a battery it fired right up. The transmission works great in all 4 forward gears and reverse and the PTO engages and disengages like butter. The parking brake works, as do the "dry" four wheel brakes. Oil pressure is great and there is virtually no blow-by. It runs cool, the battery charges, and even the speedometer works. The tires are easily 60 years old so it could really use a new set if you plan to drive it anywhere. The body is rock solid but as you can see has surface rust. It was originally a nice navy blue color as seen on the cowl and showing through the brushed-on silver paint somebody put on decades ago. The original leather roof blew off when I was driving it years ago but the structure is great as is all the wood in the cab and bed. The driver's door glass is cracked but still goes up and down fine. The original leather on the seats is there but like cardboard and falling apart- but still usable! The exhaust head pipe is OK but the muffler has rusted off. I DO NOT HAVE A TITLE but I do have a bill of sale from when I bought it and will provide one to the new owner as well. I will not ship it but I will help with any shipping arrangements you make. And, most importantly I am not looking for any trades- this is being sold solely to make some room in my building otherwise I'd keep it forever because it is just a neat old truck. When was the last time you saw one? Inspections are welcome any time before the auction ends and before you bid. I'm happy to take any additional photos or answer any questions from serious bidders. Please also check out the videos below to see this truck running and driving as well as the sprayer pump in operation. Thanks for looking. I just wanted to post that I reserve the right to end the auction early if the reserve is not met as I have been getting offers to end the auction early. If the reserve is met, however, the auction will run to the end. Also a lot of folks have asked what I think it is worth and I honestly have no idea! I paid $7500 for it a decade ago (and have the bill of sale to document that) and then spent just under $3000 having a high end shop get it running and driving. I've been told it is very rare and could be worth over $20k to the right buyer. It was also featured in a vintage truck magazine in 2006 and I will try to dig that up. I know it is one very cool old rig and I have certainly had fun using it and it has even been in a 4th of July parade where everybody just loved it. Yes the 46,000 miles are original and the odometer and speedometer work just fine. Thanks again for the interest and questions.
