Vehicle Detail
Of our fleet of restoration project vehicles, this is the truck that I had wanted to restored for my own personal truck, if time would have allowed, but it doesn't look like it will, so on the sale block it goes! This is a sweet restoration truck with the automatic, 350, lock-out hubs, factory air. Though all those items will need attention in the restoration process, just having them will be a valuable asset. The 350 runs but needs some engine work as it runs rough from sitting, not sure to what extent. It has an Edlebrock carb. The auto transmission needs work because it does not move, but we do not know if it is minor or needs a full rebuild. This K10 with factory air which we must presume will need service, but have not tested, is all intact. We bought this truck for restoration because everything we checked for us to consider a full blown restoration, along with the seller advising us the transfer case and differentials were all in good working order, met our criteria. The odometer shows 23,449 miles which our notion is that it would be 123,449 rather than more. The tell tale sign is the light wear on the rubber cover on the brake pedal which we have taken a close-up photo of. Though this truck has minimal rusting issue compared to most 45 year old pickups. The minimal body work needed entails pretty minor rust in the bottom of both doors which is repairable. Our shop mgr. said we could professionally complete the door repairs to like original condition for $125 per door. The rockers are rusted, though they could be repaired. We were contemplating installing a new set, but also considered repairing these as it is a toss-up. Based upon what we would charge to repair these, the cost would be rockers for $150 each or could install new ones for $225 each. To have the truck body ready for routine full restoration, eliminating all rust issues would run about $250 for the doors and $300-$450 for the rockers, for a total of $550-700. However, had we done the work, our combined work charge to do both the doors and the rockers for a customer, we would discount for a package deal for repairing both the doors and rockers of $475, putting them in perfect factory spec condition. Cab mounts are good and the remainder of the truck is solid with only very little body work needed consisting of minor dents and one where a small tree limb fell on the bed rail which is in the photos. The wood bed boards, as with all these vintage trucks, will need replaced. We particularly prefer restoration candidates in this precise condition because they can have mild resto to be classy drivers or full resto to compete with any high dollar show class trucks in this category. This starting condition has always given us far more flexibility in the final decision in how we will proceed. I'm sure this would also be of importance to a buyer of the truck in its present condition. Regarding price on the '72 Chevy K10 pickup, we felt $5,000 was a low end price, based upon our valuation research in seeing prices from $5000 on up for these trucks in similar condition. The quite high restored value of these trucks is why we added it to our fleet of restoration projects. We must face facts that we are getting old and slow and will never complete so many projects. So we are putting everything on the market. Therefore, to get our investments sold as-is, ready for someone else to complete restoration, I've decided to take the losses and have slashed the price on this truck from $5,000 to the best bid it will bring on ebay with no reserve.
