Vehicle Detail

Up for bid is a restored 1992 Volvo 240 wagon. I used to restore these cars about every 14-18 months, but stopped a few years ago basically because good interiors, trims, and bodies were becoming difficult to find. I won't use cheap aftermarket Asian parts - another reason I stopped doing these as high quality parts are getting scarce and hard to find. All the parts are either original blue box Volvo or Swedish-German sources. I had enough NOS parts left over to almost do another, and was talked into it when a lifetime Georgia car, (totally rust free - no winters) with 116,000 miles became available. About halfway into it, the buyer's job was transferred out of state and they backed out. I finished it and continued to drive it (7,000 miles) this summer, and even considered keeping it. But the bottom line is we have no room for another car, so I'm placing it up for sale. My reserve is fair - lower than what many dealers want for untouched high mileage specimens, and a number that you couldn't replace it at. The outside: 2 decades of Georgia sun baked the paint, so the car was stripped and repainted its original 189 white. While apart, a new windshield was installed, as well as new lamps, new door seals, rear hinge harnesses, power mirrors and side markers. New Llumar (lifetime warranty) tint rounds it out. The inside: a complete pristine black interior was located on the West coast, and shipped back here to replace the sun damaged original tan interior. Dash has a single small crack in the usual place. ABS gauge clusters are known to have problems, so this one was sent out for rebuild and new OE style-updated faces. The lighting is also vastly improved. Also added is a full gauge package, including a tach, oil pressure and volt gauges. A new Blaupunkt Bluetooth stereo provides the tunes, playing through 2 sets of Boston Acoustic speakers. The climate remains cool with a refurbed converted 134a ice cold AC system that moves through a new blower motor. Dash and power mirror switches were also refurbed. The chassis: All new bushings - front and rear, tie rod ends, ball joints, upper strut mounts with reinforcement plates, Sachs-Boge front struts and rear shocks, sway bar end links, and powder coated turbo 23mm front and rear sway bars. The new suspension rides on fresh OE 5 spoke 15" alloys wrapped in new Pirelli P4's, and is stopped by rebuilt brake calipers, new rotors and pads. While apart, the wheel bearings were also repacked. The power train: The original motor had been overheated due to the original and substandard plastic tank radiator failing. It was pulled and a fresh redblock installed, as well as the trans thoroughly gone through. Cylinder head was ported, a 5 angle valve job, and a T cam (turbo) installed for better low end power. Its how it should have been from the factory. Power transmits through new u-joints and carrier bearing. Any future cooling issue was covered with a new Nissens all metal (brass/copper) heavy duty 3 core radiator. All new hoses, belts, timing belt, tensioner, sensors, gaskets, seals, water pump, 5 yr battery and 100A alternator rounds it out. It breathes through a full 2 1/2" stainless steel exhaust (rear muffler is aluminized - as the size wasn't available in SS) with a new free flow catalytic convertor and stainless chrome tip. This car runs, drives and rides like a dream. It needs nothing but a driver. Its not a new car - but as close to one as you will find. Might be your best (and last?) chance to get one like it. I will assist in any way to help with arranging transport, or you are free to fly in and drive it home. You won't be disappointed. Good luck! NOTE: No warranty is offered or implied. $500 deposit due within 48 hrs of end of auction. Balance due within 7 days unless other arrangements are made. I will assist the buyer with any freight, delivery or pickup details. Please contact me with ANY questions before bidding. On Oct-05-15 at 19:53:05 PDT, seller added the following information: I forgot to add that the fuel system was also overhauled with a new in-tank pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator and all 4 (NEW) injectors. The interior also has lighted power window switches from a 960 (all doors).
