Vehicle Detail
A 1974 VW Thing partially restored. The "Tub" has had all rust through spots removed and new patches welded in ready for final bodywork. The pan is in very good condition with only one rust through spot removed. The pan patches are already made and need to be welded in. The engine runs strong. I drove it 3 hours home before I started restoring it. Transmission works fine. The fenders are in good shape. New parts include: new front axle beam with new ball joints pressed in, new Thing Shop Convertible Top with installation kit, new Thing Shop upper and lower windshield frame, new hardware for the convertible top frame, misc. rubber parts from The Thing Shop & CIP. New side view mirrors. Four new Tiger Paw radial tires. The door handles etc. are labeled and in ziplock bags. All the parts are there to restore it seats, rear seats, windshield, latches, dashboard trim, etc. I do have the window frames. Tasks I was going to get to include: welding the last two patches on the pan, installing a new fuel line, brake lines and installing new rear drive axels. I have new boots to rebuild the drive axles however, my Old Time VW mechanic buddy told me just buy new axles and save yourself the aggravation (Not thing specific). The rear lenses are cracked and need to be replaced however, they were not "Thing specific" and therefore reasonably priced. Included are 2 repair manuals, a Thing parts manual and a Thing wiring manual. Also included is a spare front apron in very good shape (sell it on ebay for parts money). I also have quarter saw oak slats for duck boards if you want them. The dolly is on casters and included. The pan fits under the dolly. You can roll it all on a U haul trailer and be on your way. I have the title. I have had a "life changing" event and just do not have the time to continue working on it. Feel free to ask questions.
