Vehicle Detail

For auction is a an intact 1987 Mercury Merkur XR4Ti. It has been in the family since new, originally purchased new in Cheyenne Wyoming. It was handed down from my sister there, to my folks here in the Chicago area in 1997. My mom was the primary driver, but my dad & I drove it as well. My folks have passed away, (Dad in December of last year) so I am selling this vehicle and another, that were titled in his name. I have a clear title for this Merkur in my name, in which to conduct a sale with. The car is fully drivable, and could go any distance reliably. Quite a bit of routine maintenance and repair has been done on the car to continue it on as a daily driver. I have a folder which contains a complete service history from the time it was new. Therefore, in the description I'll simply highlight what is unique:1998-Install Borla Muffler & Stainless Steel Tailpipe Tip1998-Install Silicone Fiber Wrap on A/C Lo-side Hose2000-Install Amsoil Dual Remote Engine Oil Filtering System2000-1st Transmission Overhaul w/Installation of Transgo SK-C3 Shift Kit & 1qt Remote Inline Fluid Filter2000-Install Holley HP Anialator Ign. & Coil (control box currently disabled)2004-2nd Transmission Overhaul2007-Install Upgraded Front Control Arms w/Poly Bushings2009/10-3rd Transmission Overhaul w/SynLube Transmission Fluid Installed Currently, the car drives as it should. It starts immediately when cold. However, if you shut it off within say less than a minute after a cold start, you may have to put your foot in the gas to get it to restart. Warm restarts are fine. It's a lot of fun to drive, and is willing to motor along briskly at around town speeds. At highway speeds it is still smooth, just noisier in the interior from the exhaust, notably at 70 mph or above. The tires on it now are H-rated BF Goodrich Touring TA's with close to 90% tread remaining all the way around, with no weather cracking. There are two known electrical issues. First, the turn signals act up when the brake is depressed. Related are the emergency flashers which won't stay off, therefore it's switch has been secured in one position, with the fuse removed. The other is the 3 yellow warning lights in the center of the console. With the engine running, they flash together erratically, yet are off most of the time. The body has decent paint on it, some places it's shinier than others. The hood, roof, and rear wing are the worst from oxidation. There is rust forming under the trim in places, and some places where rust is bubbling under unbroken paint. The front valence was redone about 10 years ago, but needs painting (chipping from flexing) again, but doesn't have any cracks or breaks in it. The headlights are yellowed, and the housings broken at some of their mounts. The windshield doesn't have any cracks or scratches in it, but it does have quite a bit of pitting on it. There is sand pitting on it from it's time in Cheyenne, and some larger specks which appear to be from welding spatter. The underside of the vehicle is in remarkably good shape corrosion wise, and without damage. The interior is in very nice shape. There are cigarette burns in a couple of places, but no further deterioration from it. Extras: An extra radio and amplifier are included. There is a factory rear view mirror attachment pad... unopened. Along with the original owners manual, is a complete factory manual, loose leaf in a 3-ring binder. This car with some minor repair, could continue as a daily driver, or be the foundation for an enthusiast looking to the build the vehicle into a custom marque. Thanks for looking! On Sep-30-15 at 15:20:38 PDT, seller added the following information: Here is an update on this Merkur listing:1-There is a small break on the front valance. It is on the left side on the end, and is about 1 1/2" long... see additional picture.2-Going through my manuals, I came across 3 more factory publication for this vehicle. They are: Car Vacuum & Wiring Diagrams, Electrical & Vacuum Trouble-Shooting Manual, and Car & Truck Engine/Emission Facts Book Summary. There is also a picture of this group of three manuals.
