1979 Ford F250, Extended cab, Camper Special. This truck had a fifth wheel and was used to pull a camper in Florida where I live. My understanding is a company called Tampa Conversions did the custom work to this truck. The truck was originally a non-duelly and had a spacer kit installed with bolt-on fender flares. I installed new 16" rims and tires on the front, but the rears are the older-style 16.5 bias-ply's. The odometer is only five digits and it says 21,000. I honestly have no idea if this is correct but it does work. The chassis was supposedly ordered without an engine and the conversion company installed the Isuzu 6BDT diesel engine. This engine is a copy of the Cummins engine of the similar name and the primary difference is the cylinders are sleeved to make for simple rebuilds. This engine was commonly used in Hitachi excavators and in Australia for RV's, and busses. The engine is bolted to a stock Ford transmission (C6 or C7) using an adapter plate. The motor mounts and all the accessories were done very professionally and the truck functions exactly as it should. I used it on weekends to take my boat to the docks. I got a lot of comments on the truck. I guess you could say it was a crowd pleaser. I have a company truck now and I never really use the truck anymore so I decided to sell it. The few negatives are there is some rust on the top of the cab at the gutters and the transmission rear seal leaks but works fine. The AC was converted to 134a but I don't think it works now. The fuel tank is missing and I have a bed-toolbox-tank that is not part of the sale. You will need to purchase another tank but you can test-drive the truck with this tank.My friends say this might be a good prepper truck because there really is no electricity needed to run the engine. The alternator is just for the AC, lights and starter. Once you start the truck there is a cable-lever you pull to stop the engine, (the key only starts the truck and runs the accessories). The truck has a real solid feel to it and the engine runs really nice with plenty of power but is not a race car.
