Vehicle Detail

The car was purchased and restoration started in 2006. The car was torn to a bare frame and rebuilt top to bottom. We had driven the car 15 to 20,000 miles since completed. This car was built to my wife's design and specs and has not been driven for nearly a year since her passing. PLEASE READ THE LISTING CAREFULLY BEFORE BIDDING. It is described accurately and honestly. CHASSIS: Body removed, chassis examined and found to be perfect. No rust, no damage. Blasted clean and painted in DuPont base / clear black as was all the chassis components. SUSPENSION: FRONT features stock GTO upper and lower arms, new bushings and upper shafts, ball joints etc. New 79 Trans Am WS6 springs and 1.25 inch sway bar with urethane links, KYB gas shocks. Lined to WS6 specs. REAR GNX springs with modified spring pockets, boxed control arms, new bushings, Hotchkiss 1 inch sway bar, KYB gas shocks, 67 GTO chassis links between the upper and lower control arms. BRAKES: Power disc / drum using 70 GTO front spindles, rotors and calipers, master cyl. and power booster, all new components. REARS: Stock GM drums, all new components. All new steel lines and chassis fasteners. STEERING: Power, 80 Trans Am WS6 box and pump in 66 GTO housing. NEW center link, tie rod ends, sleeves. ENGINE: 71 Pontiac 400 nostalgically badged as a 421. It was a good running 40K mile motor that required no machine work. It was fitted with new rings, bearings and pins, std. bore, nodular iron crank, balanced as purchased from a friend. I added the period heads. Heads are 66 092 with larger valves 1.96 and 1.66, slight port matching, comp springs, stock rockers and molly push rods. 66 GTO Tri-Power, stock carbs. Other Engine items include: Melling oil pump and HD pump shaft, Lenotti cam, dual roller chain, distributer converted to "Pertronix" electronic with "Blaster" coil and Taylor 8mm wires. Early 64 valve covers, Flow cooler water pump and 67 GTO HO /RA three flange exhaust manifolds. New "Be-Cool" Aluminum radiator. NOW THE BAD NEWS. PLEASE READ: I had the car at a dealer for consignment since Feb. I recently brought it home and it was running well with it's usual 60+ oil pressure and 180 temp. It suddenly surged and started making a metallically sick sound and quit. Coolant is in the pan and the motor will spin and lock. Safe to say, it's blown. I'm currently in litigation with them. I suspect someone went out for a power run and missed a shift or over- rev'd it and about 1/4 mile from my house it spun a bearing. To say the least, I'm sick over this. The car ran perfectly for almost seven years. It gets out of my sight for a few months and now this. First my wife passes a year ago now someone messed with her car. My loss your gain. The reserve reflects the bad motor. The car always ran very well, started and idled in any any weather now this mess. I just can't deal with this car any more, it's now become too painful. TRANS: 350 Turbo from 69 Firebird. Fully rebuilt with all TCI and B&M components with a 2200 B&M stall converter. Very firm, positive tire chirping shifts. 68 GTO Hurst dual gate fitted to a 66 console with a custom made Lucite shift ball. New Driveline Service driveshaft and U-joints, balanced. REAR / DIFF: GM (Chevy) HD 10 bolt with Richmond 3:73 gears and Auburn center section. Like all Richmond gears they "sing" a bit. All new seals and bearings EXHAUST: Newly custom made stock pipes with NOS 64 GTO stock mufflers. Sounds exactly like it did when it left the factory. Has repro stainless splitters. TIRES / Wheels: Coker red line radials still nice tread with Crager 15X7 wheels that resemble the old HURST mags. I added a set of old HURST center caps and they have made many take a second look. The entire chassis was detailed and built with grade 8 fasteners all new lines, hoses, everything. Nothing was reused. BODY: The body was fully stripped and found to be a mixed bag. The front fenders and doors were nearly perfect. The right quarter panel showed rust just starting on the bottom, the left had a big crease and a bit more rust at the bottom. The inner wheel houses and above the wheel well moldings were very nice and covered in about 1/2 of undercoat. One front inner fender was perfect one needed some small patching and some minor work was done on the core support. The hood was decent with no rot but some surface rust and dents. The trunk lid required a lot of work on the bottom edge along the back and a lot of "tweaking" to get it to fit right. The one inch piece between the hood and windshield was rotted and replaced the rear panel between the rear window and trunk was also replaced. The floor pan was a mixed as well with some holes hear and there and random places so both full sides were replaced as well as a full trunk floor. The middle tunnel is original and was retained. As I said, a mixed bag but really solid all things considered. All metal work was done with all the available new steel panels from Ames and MIG welded in place. All finishing materials are DuPont from the hand etch to etching and high build primers, sealers and the top coat. There was a tremendous amount of block sanding and priming done. The underside of the car is painted and cleared the same as the top with seams sealed as the factory would have done prior to undercoating. The color is a modern version of 64 GTO Aquamarine from a 93 Dodge truck. It's done in Chroma-base and topped with 7200 Chroma-Premier clear, wet sanded down to 2500 grit and buffed. This car has been done since 2008 and still shows very well. There are a few minor bug and rock chips but nothing most would ever see. It is / was a driver and we drove it everywhere. INTERIOR: All new from Ames white seat covers and seat foams, door panels and headliner with teal carpet, console, dash pad and belts. Nice contrast. There is an entirely new "Painless" wiring kit. No old wires were used. TRIM: Bumpers are rechromed "Bumper Boys". Don't buy from them! I am not satisfied with the chrome is shows OK but I've noticed thin is a few hard to view areas and the front has a few tiny pits. All wheel mouldings, rockers, glass trim is very nice to great. The trim around the windows is the best I could come up with after collecting 6 sets. These are the hardest trim items for a sport coupe. It's not perfect but I was just at the GTOAA show and it looks as good as 99% of the others. The tail pail / lights were rechromed and look good. There is a new tinted windshield and the rest of the glass is fair to good. No cracks or discoloration. The rear windows are locked up internally (due to my grandchildren). All felts, and fuzzies are new. The grills are decent originals but not perfect. They show well. OPTIONS: What was once a bare bones stripped car having only a column shifted automatic and radio now has a lot of interesting oprions. Starting with the interior: a 67 GTO tilt / collapsible column and steering shafts, a nearly perfect 64 GTO wood wheel, a working original 4 way flasher unit, 65 GTO Rallye pack. The speedo and gas gauge work well as does the oil pressure gauge but the temp gauge reads as much as 15 degrees higher than it really is at times. The odometer stopped working two years ago, If I was going to keep it, I'd have a new Rallye cluster from Ames. AM / FM radio of an unknown make with an 8 track, minorly disguised as a 65 AM / FM, 66 GTO console with a nice working vacuum gauge, working glove box, console, hood and trunk lights, electric trunk release, rear defroster that works on both speeds, roof mounted map light, remote outside mirror (mounted to the door, I hated that fender location on the 64's), reel out lights in the trunk and under the hood. An original power antenna in on the car but stopped working some time ago. SUMMERY: This is / was a nice car. My wife picked the design, options, colors as she wanted it. We drove the car and it rode, handled, braked beautifully. She loved the car but sadly was our last project. This is a sold 8 out of 10 car that has won a few awards but was our cruiser never intended to be a show car. I am truly broken hearted about the motor but the price is right. The reserve is set low that you could buy it, part it out (which would be foolish) and make money. A fresh engine and you can make a lot of money or have a nice fun cruiser. I just can't have it here any longer it has become too painful. Thank you for your interest and bid accordingly. God Bless you, your families, and the United States.
