Vehicle Detail

1955 Porsche 356 Replica. This is a CMC kit car built and titled on 1974 VW Super Beetle Pan.  The car was originally registered in 1997.  The original owner kept the car registered in Tennessee until 2006. I purchased the car as the second owner in 2011.      it has always been a pleasure to drive this car around town. Plenty of power to go, plenty of power to stop. Also been a turnkey car whether it’s going to car show, out for cruise or to the office.   Everywhere we go we are stopped and offered many compliments! Always garaged, always a fun sporty car!      This is an excellent speedster replica example for those that want to get into this enjoyable world without breaking the bank investing in the high end speedster cars.  The new owner should be someone who is looking forward to having a car they can drive and enjoy immediately, wants to turn a wrench here and there in their desire to make the car their own.   Every kit car in this price range has its share of TLC requirements and I'd rather exaggerate the faults of the car then leave a potential buyer wondering.  The car starts every time and I never hesitate to take it where-ever I please.   You won't either. Car is sold as is.  Buyer is required to submit a $500 non-refundable PayPal deposit within 24 hours of auction close.  Final payment may be by wire transfer or other secured payment method.  I can work with the seller regarding transport... My zip is 30096 for shipping purposes.      Suspension: Front disk brakes & Rear drums.  Tires are new ~1000 miles, shocks are new and the VW stock type for smoother riding.  Car is so light and low to ground that handling has never been an issue and I preferred these more forgiving shocks over stiffer KYBs.  Rims are straight and true; there is some paint peeling from the rim centers.    Engine: Rebuilt as an 1800 mini-stroker and has approximately 1000 miles on it.   AS41 case with case savers.  88x74 "thick wall" pistons, Engle W100 cam, CB 044 90/92 heads w/ heavy duty high rev springs, mild polishing, 1.25 ratio rockers, & aluminum pushrods from aircooled.net Dual Dellorto 40 carbs, (purchase includes an extra set of matching carbs ready for rebuild.) Lightweight flywheel, heavy duty clutch.  Bosch 009 Distributor, extra 3qt oil sump. Hideaway exhaust.   I was a little disappointed in the original stock 1600's ability to get out of other peoples way and this is a very nice improvement.  Power delivery comes on low and pulls nicely through the power band. I've never revved this motor past 5000 rpm but it is still feels like it wants to give more.        Transmission: Lightened flywheel & Sachs Heavy Duty clutch.  This is not a "freeway flyer" long top gear transmission.  Delivery into all four forward gears and one reverse is consistent and reliable.  Shifts are a little notchy (I believe just some shifter adjustment is in order.)  Downshift to 3 to 2 is unreliable and frequently requires rev matching and/or double clutching.  This could very well be the shifter out of alignment, but more likely a worn 2nd gear synchro. 4th to 3rd and 2nd to 1st downshifts are fine. I have priced the reserve of this car with this in mind.    Interior: Interior is in good condition.  It is the original CMC interior from 1997 and of kit car quality.   There is a tear in the driver bucket seat and the leather steering wheel has seen better days. Carpets are in good condition (again original kit car quality) There is no substantial fading or cracking.  Included in sale are nice 3/4 windows.  There is a crack in windshield.  Top is in OK condition as well (looks good, but there are a few minor tares) These parts can be sourced very cheaply from speedster forums and or new parts/kits obtained from vintagespeedsters.com.  The top never fit perfectly, but the only times I've put up the top is to take pictures.     Exterior: Overall in good condition.  Headlights, tail lights and markers are all new. Car looks great from 10 feet and it is only when you closely observe you will notice a few spider cracks in the fender flares and a chip in the front hood.   Paint quality is good as well; shines in all areas.  Included in sale is a nice car cover.    Electrical: Again kit car quality.  Everything is fused and there are extra breakers for anything you wish to add.   There are interior lights and a small blower to defog windows that have not worked since I bought the car. All gauge lights work fine.   Battery is ~4 years old and on a battery tender when not in use.   The oil pressure gauge is not working.  Gauge and sender have been replaced.    The car is also for sale locally and available for showing anytime in the North Atlanta, GA area.  I will be happy to answer additional questions you may have.  Happy bidding!                                   Get your own valid XHTML YouTube embed code                                 Get your own valid XHTML YouTube embed code                                 Get your own valid XHTML YouTube embed code
