Vehicle Detail

This is a 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster replica. It is titled in the State of Iowa as a 1957 Porsche 356 Replica. I started building this car in 2008 and finished it in 2011. It a Vintage Speedsters kit on a 1966 VW Beetle chassis. Everything is new or rebuilt. The pan was taken from the VW donor car, completely stripped, new floor pans welded in and then shortened about 11". Once this was complete all chassis components were fitted and the body placed on the chassis to make sure everything fit. When that was done the body was removed and everything was disassembled. Final assembly included: 1) Black powdercoated pan and all chassis components.2) Brand new adjustable front beam with new springs, ball joints, steering box, tie rods, tie rod ends, etc, etc.3) All bushing replaced with red urethane for improved handling performance.4) Rear suspension uses sway-away adjustable spring plates so you can adjust the rear height just to where you want it.5) Freeway Flyer transmission with powdercoated axle tubes, new bearings, seals, etc.6) 1915 CC Type 1 VW engine dyno'd at 88hp and 105 ft-lb torque. The engine has dual single barrel carburetors.7) Wide 5 front disc brakes and Wide 5 rear drum brakes. All new brake hoses and stainless steel brake lines.8) Side curtains, convertible top as well as the tonneau cover used to hide the top when you are in convertible mode.9) An awesome paint job using a Chrysler Pewter color that is absolutely stunning. I cut no corners on this build. The thing is a lot of fun, gets a lot of attention everywhere I go and little kids love it. But as much as I hate to, I am a project guy and once the project is done things start to get in the way. I've enjoyed this for 4 years but it is time to go. It's got 2475 miles on it. I just drove it home from storage to day. About a 50 mile run. Ran like a champ. For what it's worth this car will do an actual 110 MPH, but don't ask me how I know that :-). The car also comes with a genuine Porsche 356 car cover. I paid about $400 for it. It fits really nice and has a giant Porsche logo and crest on the part of the cover that goes over the hood. It's beautiful. It has its own porsche labled duffel bag that it fits in. On May-26-15 at 06:17:46 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional Engine Information: The engine in this car was built by Chico Performance Racing in Arcadia CA. The builder was Anibal Chico. He dyno's all engines after they are run in. I have the dyno results and will post. The engine also has a full flow oil filter system. Transaxle: The transaxle was built by MOFOCO in Milwaukee. I will post more pictures of the car cover on the car and see if I can get some clearer pictures of the engine compartment and close ups of the dash. And since this is a VW drivetrain, this car also has a tendency to "mark it's spot" with an oil drip here and there, which is typical of every aircooled VW I've ever owned or built. On May-26-15 at 07:20:18 PDT, seller added the following information: Posted a few more pictures and also the dyno sheet. I looks like it maxed out at about 88 HP and 109 lb-ft of torque. On May-26-15 at 07:33:15 PDT, seller added the following information: The engine does have heater boxes so there is heat and defrost on the car. To turn on you pull the lever alongside the parking brake. The paint is PPG-4274. The car also has coco black mats on the driver and passenger side.On May-26-15 at 17:59:13 PDT, seller added the following information: I was asked a question on why someone should trust my work since this is a "project" and there is a lot of crappy work done out there by people. Here was my response: Dear XXXXXX,Extremely good question and I"m glad you asked as I would have similar concerns because there is a lot of crappy work out there. I've been building/rebuilding cars, snowmobiles, lawnmowers, outboard motors, houses and anything else I could get my hands on for the last 35 years or so. My last project was an airplane, Piper PA-14 replica that included building the completely wood and fabric wings using 1/4"X1/4" spruce and 1/16" mahogany plywood for the gussets along with the airframe. The airframe is aircraft grade chrome moly tubing ranging from 1/2" to 1" in diameter with wall thickness from 0.020" to about 0.050". It all gets cut and fit into a roll cage type arrangement and then welded together using a very small gas torch. I ended up selling the wings, landing gear and airframe I built to a retired guy who had time to finish the project. One thing I learned about building airplanes is that all guys who finish them see to have one thing in common...they are retired :-). The plane is flying now and is located in Pocahontas Iowa. So this guy had enough faith in my work to fly it. I'm a mechanical engineer by trade although my mechanical skills are mostly built into my DNA. For "fun" I have taken several welding and metal working courses over the years. Shortening of the VW frame is actually a very simple process but keeping alignment is key. It is important to follow the instructions in the manual or you will be in trouble. As a precaution to educate myself, I actually flew to Hawaiian Gardens, CA to the Vintage Speedster factory, and Kirk Duncan (owner) let me spend 1/2 a day just wandering around the shop watching how things were done and asking his technicians lots of question as well as taking a zillion pictures of their build. I would put my build up against one of thieirs any day and I would say mine is better. They will reuse some used parts. I went with new. They paint their chassis. I powdercoated mine. Hope this helps!- msnord1
