Vehicle Detail
Hello. Thank you for looking at my 2005 Ford Freestar minivan. If you're familiar with the Ford Windstar, or the Mercury Monterey, then you'll be familiar with this one; this is the last generation of the Windstar/Freestar line, and was released simultaneously with the Monterey. We bought and drove this car in Maryland while working in the DC area. Now that we've returned to Miami, we have no need for a van such as this. Note that we have the clear and clean Maryland title in hand, which is easy to register in Florida. Read about the Freestar / Monterey here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Windstar#Third_generation It's a fine, reasonably comfortable van, and will suit a family with some kids in the back, maybe the member of a band with a 16 piece drum kit (it's got lots of storage) or the the proprietor of a small business as a cargo van. Note that the third row folds completely down, and the second row is removable. In fact other Freestars on ebay list this model as a "cargo van", though that's not what we used it for. The car runs well, despite high miles. Right now it has just short of 160k miles. One slight strangeness is that occasionally it shifts hard into second gear. Namely, when accelerating, it will accelerate past 20mph, and then drop a big loudly into second. This has happened since we've had it, and it happens only infrequently -- maybe every few days. It seems not to have gotten any worse, and we've not gotten it checked. Other small weirdnesses include: the front cigarette/auxiliary outlet seems not to work. No worry -- the van includes 4 in total (two in front, one for the passengers, and one in the rear). Another is that the letters and numbers are worn from the CD player (pictured), and the CD player sometimes doesn't play a CD. It will spit it back out a few times, before finally accepting. The radio plays fine. Another: it appears to have been owned at some point by both a dog owner, and a smoker (though it doesn't smell like smoke or dog). There are various cigarette burns around, which we cover with seat covers (included), and we'll have it professionally cleaned, but there may still be a bit of dog hair. The cruise control worked once since we bought it, and then never again. We've not tried to trouble shoot it, though the web suggests that it's either a sensor on the brake cylinder, or something sticky (like Mountain Dew) in the switch. I don't really use cruise control, so I've not tried really hard to fix it. The van includes one key (the microchip in the key prevents theft), and two after-market wireless locking and unlocking pads (pictured). We have an additional key that opens the door, but does not have the chip to start the ignition. The car has the usual amount of scratches, dings, and cracks in the plastic molding. From the pictures (i.e., from a reasonable distance) it's a real nice looking van, but looking closely you'll find the expected imperfections. I do not see any rust on the body. The car recently (October 2014) passed a Maryland State Mechanical and Exhaust inspection -- the MD inspection is one of the most rigorous in the nation. In order to pass, we installed a number of new parts: These include: Four new tires (pictured) (now with less than 10k miles on them)Rear brake pads and rotorsFront rotorsLeft front sway bar stabilizer linkNew EGR valveNew Coil, wires, and spark plugsAdditional specs: 3.9 liter gasoline engineAutomatic transmissionElectric windows and locksFront wheel driveSliding doorsRemovable second row seatFold down and hide the third row seatDual air bagsCloth seats throughoutCold A/CKeyless Entry The A/C blows cold and has separate controls for the front and the rear of the van. The rear windows open as vents from the front, which is a cool feature. It has power windows and locks. It's our daily driver, it always starts, has never given any trouble, and includes an enormous amount of storage and seating -- it really is bigger on the inside. If you're thinking of buying a reliable, comfortable, affordable minivan, I think you should give this one serious consideration. Finally, a disclaimer: I'd be comfortable giving this van to my best friend, but despite all that, it's a ten year old van with high miles, and has seen its share of the road. I cannot guarantee any part of it, and offer no warranty. Once you take it away, its care and maintenance is your responsibility. I would like a $400 non-refundable deposit via paypal within 24 hours of the end of the auction. The winner can pick it up during the day in the next 5 days, and should expect to pay the remainder in cash. If you leave it longer than 5 days, I'll keep your deposit, and list it again. We'll have the title and a bill of sale for you when you arrive. It is currently in the 33125 area code. Please review the images below. Happy bidding!
