Vehicle Detail
1963 VW DoubleCab I’ve decided to put my bus up for sale. It is a solid daily driver and is ready for a new owner. I currently have 5 trucks in my garage, and I am looking to sell a couple of my vehicles and get some new vehicles. This is a NO RESERVE auction! My buy it now price is $32,000 US dollars. I have about 90 pictures of the bus that I took today, and I’m willing to send them to any interested party. Bus is located in my warehouse in Mesa AZ. I have about $20k in new parts on this bus, and have maybe 250 miles on them since installed. Considering a Double Cab runs at least $15k these days for a beat up double cab (probably not running at that price), and adding in the $20k in new parts, the $32k buy-it-now price is not unreasonable. You can buy this one already complete and save yourself some time and money. That is not including the thousands of dollars(I have calculated over $4000) that I have paid shops in labor to help me finish this bus. Yes, the bus has rust. I have not hidden anything in the pictures. If the rust bothers you, then this bus isn't for you. If it didn't have rust, it would have a lot higher price. Engine is a 1759cc stoker engine. Had the short block built by a very reputable shop here in town. Ended up paying them $2900 for the short block to be built, parts and labor. List of engine parts broken down at the end of this ad. After picking up the short block, I proceeded to finish the engine build with some nice parts. Spending another $3307 on the following; new dual deluxe 40hpmx carb kit, chrome doghouse fan house with heat, fan hardware kit, new cooling fan, 60 amp alternator, coil 12v blue bosch, distributor with electronic IAP, new alternator stand, new spark plug set up, new alternator pulley, 72 row oil cooler, new cylinder tins, new fan thermostat, Vintage Speed lowered bus muffler with heat, aluminum pulley, chrome 2 piece doghouse, 3 piece chrome heater channel kit. New electric pump, new air hose heater box, new oil cooler dog house, new electric fuel pump. Had the engine dialed in and it is running like a top. Transmission is a rebuilt Rancho tranny, freeway flyer with 4:12 ring and pinion, with a .89 4th gear for freeway cruising. Acquired from Vintage Warehouse. Front end is 4” narrowed beam, adjustable. New shocks, tie rods, etc. Everything is new up front. $1750 for the front end spindle to spindle. All purchased from Vintage Warehouse in California. If you know the VW scene, you know that he knows his stuff and sells quality parts. The current pictured height of the bus is slightly raised in the front, from the lowest setting. It will go lower, but I raised it just a little bit cause I didn't want it to rub when I had the family in the car. Rear end - Straight axle kit, new rebuilt Ranch tranny. Notched spring plates. Paid $2000 for the rear ended and transaxle. Parts from Vintage Warehouse. Wilwood Brakes- probably the best upgrade I did (and the most expensive) - Wilwood Porsche pattern disc brakes, with new lines, and custom e-brake cables to fit the stock e-brake handle. Fully functional e-brake handle. 5x130 front and rear Wilwood Porsche style disc brakes, new master cylinder and bottle. Reconditioned flipped spindles. Acquired new from Old Speed, and cost me $5000. Fuch style wheels and new tires, acquired new from Old Speed and cost me $1900. They have a maximum of 250 miles on them and are in perfect shape. Alignment complete upon installation. Front tires are Continental ContiPro Contac 155/60/15. Rear tires are Goodyear Eagle GT 205/65/15. I had the seats recovered by a local interior shop. The seat frames are the original seat frames, just had them covered in a chocolate leather (not real leather, more like a synthetic vinyl ) in a “tufted” pattern with buttons making the diamond shape. Rear pedistool is with the bus, which you probably know is always a hard part to find when missing. $1200 for interior to be recovered. Shifter - just purchased the Scat shifter to eliminate the stock, sloppy spaghetti shifter that was in it. $160 New rear shocks $200. New electronic ignition $160. New Battery $150. Gas gauge works. Had a new sending unit put in. As I mentioned before, aside from all the new parts, I have spent thousands of dollars having shops go through the bus and fix anything I didn’t like or any recommendations the shop saw that needed fixed. I spared no money to get this bus to be the solid daily driver it is now. Lots of labor paid to make this a worry free daily driver. All electric works. Headlights, brake lights, blinkers, ignition. Locking doors with keys. Church key for the gas tank door and rear deck lid. New windshield rubber. Currently, the only thing it lacks are side mirrors to make daily driving a little easier. I just haven't picked them up yet, but an easy thing for anyone to do. Send me your email an I'll send you a ton of pics of the bus, the underside of the bus on a lift so you can see everything. If you have questions, please let me know. I run a busy business throughout the day, but if I can not answer, please leave a message and I will call you. I am happy to talk about the bus. Be ready to buy the bus if you are bidding.
