You are bidding on a 1998 VW Jetta TDI (diesel) 4-door automobile with manual transmission. It has been well cared for, and I am selling it with mixed emotions. If you purchase it, please care for it as I did. We purchased it new in California, but it has been driven primarily in the Midwest. It has had its share of repairs over the years, including significant work to remove rust. (Please see pictures of remaining rust spots.) Despite its ~212,000 miles, it cosmetically is in very good shape. Manual transmissions are typically very sturdy. Over the past year, I have noted it is somewhat "mushy" going into 5th gear; however, it runs well. Several years ago I noted the "Check engine" light (and occasionally the "Airbag" light) lit. The local VW dealership, where most of its work has been done, came to the conclusion that the electronic computer module (ECM) was turning these dashboard lights on incorrectly, but that the ECM was otherwise operating properly. As VW no longer made ECMs for this model, and there would be no guarantee that a used replacement would work as well, we chose to simply get used to seeing that particular "idiot light" lit. In 2005, we had a minor fender bender, requiring cosmetic work on the front. There did not appear to be any underlying substantial structural damage. One cannot detect any work was required without being told. The automobile includes air conditioning, power moon roof, power locks, keyless or keyed entrance, power steering, 5-speed manual transmission and wind-up windows. Its radio has been replaced with a Sony radio/CD/Aux player. The speakers are standard. It typically gets ~40 mpg city, ~45-50 highway. Repair work
