Vehicle Detail
Beautiful survivor, in great condition. This was my grandfather's car. He ordered it from Miracle Ford in Dallas, Texas, on 5/23/1964. My grandfather gave the car to my mother. My mother passed the car on to me. The car has been in my possession for the past 25 years. It was my daily driver for 8 years throughout high school and the first part of college. It's rarely been driven for the past 17 years after it transitioned from being my daily driver to being my hobby car. I'm selling it now because I don't have the time to enjoy it, too many other responsibilities. I believe the pictures speak for themselves - It looks great. It starts well and drives well at this time. I just had it serviced in October of 2014 by Orbit Automotive in Dallas, TX, where the carburetor was cleaned and rebuilt/repaired, the fuel pump was replaced, spark plugs were replaced, the distributor cap was replaced, and spark plug wires and 'rotor' were replaced. Also, the car has a working AM/FM radio from Dallas Mustang Parts made to fit in the original radio slot with an original equipment replica speaker installed in the front and a set of Pioneer speakers installed flat behind the rear seats for enjoying music as you drive. The interior has been fully restored. It's never been in a major accident. The heater works and the car includes factory installed A/C. The original equipment A/C is in need of a coolant refill, but should work if the right refrigerant is used with a good servicing. Also, the car includes an original Rally Pack with a working tachometer. I'll also hand off the original dealership order form and window sticker with the car. They are both still readable. In addition, the car passed it's Annual SAFETY Inspection for the State of Texas in October of 2014 and the inspection sticker is good through October of 2015. The inspection criteria it passed for the annual safety inspection is listed on the State of Texas's website as follows: (http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/rsd/vi/inspection/inspectionCriteria.aspx) 1. Horn 2. Windshield Wipers 3. Mirror 4. Steering 5. Seat Belts 6. Brakes (system) (Parking - beginning with 1960 models) 7. Tires 8. Wheel Assembly 9. Exhaust System 10. Exhaust Emission System (beginning with 1968 models) <------ Please note, it is exempt from exhaust emissions system tests in Texas because it is a 1964 1/2 model. 11. Beam Indicator (beginning with 1948 models) 12. Tail Lamps (2); (1) if 1959 model or earlier 13. Stop Lamps (2); (1) if 1959 model or earlier 14. License Plate Lamp (1) 15. Rear Red Reflectors (2) 16. Turn Signal Lamps (beginning with 1960 models) 17. Head Lamps (2) 18. Motor, Serial, or Vehicle Identification Number 19. Gas caps on vehicles 2-24 model years old 20. Window Tint. VIN and Data Plate Number decoding as well as a list of upgrades and updates/repairs over the past two and a half decades appears below. In addition, a list of known/visible issues is provided. It's not perfect, but I don't know of anything over 50 years old that is. It's a great car. Major updates were done in 2013, 2009, 2002, 1995, 1994, 1993, 1992, and 1989. I still have the original AM only radio that came with the car, the original tow hitch, and an extra/spare interior upholstery kit in the correct Palomino color and trim that will come with the car. (I had ordered one from California Mustang Parts and one from Dallas Mustang Parts and used the one that looked best in person.) Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Known Minor Issues That Don't Display in the Pictures: (Please look at the car in person before bidding.) *If these items bother you, you may want to reconsider the idea of buying a real classic car. These things happen when a car is 50 years old.* *They in no way hinder my enjoyment of the car or it's beauty to me. It's a great classic car. I'd want to buy it, if I weren't the one selling it. :)* 1.) The glove box interior is currently uninstalled. It was taken out during maintenance and I haven't tried to put it back in. It isn't noticeable unless you open the glove box lid. I just keep my insurance papers under the floor mat. 2.) I push the driver side door downward slightly when closing it to make sure it latches right. That's one of those great things that make it my car and no one else's - I know how to close the door right every time. 3.) The original equipment A/C is in need of a coolant refill. It should work if the right coolant is added with a good servicing. 4.) The clock included on the right side of the Rally Pack doesn't work. The hands are set to high noon (nice). However, the tachometer on the left side of the Rally Pack works very well and overall it looks great. 5.) The topcoat of paint in the recessed part of the front passenger side headlight casing is pealing, but the bottom coat of paint is still intact under it and is the same color. It's a great paint job, no other area of the car exhibits this issue. - No idea why this has occurred in that one recessed spot by the headlight. It's not visible in any of the pictures and it isn't noticeable to me when admiring the car in person. 6.) There appears to be some minor rust in the base of the trunk when I peal back the lining. It's not visible unless the trunk is open and the lining is pealed back. 7.) There are a few very small potential rust bubbles under the paint at standard locations for old Mustangs. They aren't noticeable to me unless I'm closely looking for them. 8.) There is some slight reddish brown staining on the edges of the vent grate bars between the hood of the car and the front windshield. These may come off with buffing, or could easily be touched up. 9.) There are a few small spots of touch up paint around the car and paint chips where things such as doors have been opened into it. This car was meant to be driven, door dings happen. 10.) There is a very faint scratch in the paint across the front of the hood. It's not visible to me unless I'm specifically looking for it. 11.) The black rubber gasket around the antenna is deteriorating. This isn't noticeable to me unless I'm looking at it closely. 12.) There is a faint hail dent in the hood and a faint hail dent on the top of the car. These are only visible to me if I look for them in the right light at the right angle. They aren't noticeable to me unless I'm really trying to find them. The car spent 50 years in the Dallas area and that's all I see - WOW - they don't make them like that anymore. If new cars had as thick of a metal skin, Dallas would be a much happier place in winter. 13.) The driver side tailpipe from the dual exhaust system appears to extend under the rear bumper at a slightly lower point than the dual exhaust pipe on the passenger side. I didn't notice this when I had them installed and wouldn't notice it unless I was specifically looking to see if they were even. It's hard to find good help these days. They could likely be adjusted if desired. 14.) The dash board is original and the top of it is wavy from the Texas heat and has two small cracks on top of it on the passenger side. - This shows the car's character and authenticity. It's a real classic American sports car from the dawn of the golden age of American muscle cars, not just some collection of new replica replacement parts. Embrace a classic car's character, that's what makes it real. Successful Bidder: The winning bidder must contact me within 24 hours to proceed with payment and delivery arrangements. On Nov-04-14 at 07:38:36 PST, seller added the following information: Fun Facts/ Historic Figures Yes, as seen in the order form, this car was originally purchased and driven by someone named J.R. in Dallas! However, whereas the fictitious J.R. from the TV show Dallas was an oil baron in the 1980’s, this real J.R. from Dallas was an acclaimed aircraft designer in the 1960’s. It may be interesting to fans of aviation history that this real J.R. was the chief project engineer on the famous WWII F4U Corsair fighter plane known for its distinctive curved wings and also on the world’s first successful helicopter. Also, when J.R. purchased this car and drove it to work, that work was leading Vought’s Aeronautics Division in Dallas which was working to produce the A-7 Corsair II subsonic light attack jet that was used by the US military in conflicts from the 1960s through 1993. There is an extensive archive of J.R.’s work named the J. Russell Clark Collection within the History of Aviation Collection of the University of Texas at Dallas. So, as you’re bidding on a nice car from the dawn of the golden age of American muscle cars, some may find it interesting to know that they’re also bidding on a car who’s history is intertwined with a leader from the golden age of aviation.
