Vehicle Detail

1978 Porsche 911SC Sunroof Coupe This is an absolutely spectacular, original, low-mileage (95K) 1978 911SC Sunroof Coupe. You will look long and hard to find another that matches this car’s pristine condition. It is simply stunning for its age, both inside and out. It comes equipped from the factory with electric sunroof, A/C (does not work), leather seats, 16” Fuchs alloy wheels, a 5-speed transmission, and a very rare and beautiful color combination of Petrol Blue with Tan interior. This Porsche has never had any rust. HISTORY I purchased this 911SC in June of 2013 from the second owner here in sunny California where it has spent its entire life. Always garaged and adult owned it has enjoyed a privileged life mostly driven as a weekend car. I have service records dating back from the mid-1980’s to the present. Also included in the sale of my car are the original owner’s manual, additional pamphlets, the “as new” unused factory tool kit, jack and air compressor. The “looks brand new” 36-year old blue/yellow CA license plate comes with the car as well. INTERIOR The pictures of the interior do it no justice at all. It actually looks much better in person. I don’t think you will ever find a 1978 911SC with a better, 100%, all original interior. It is unbelievable! The carpets look like nobody has ever stepped on them. There is absolutely zero fading or discoloration anywhere in the entire interior. The dash is museum quality. The door panels, armrests, rear seats and rear window speaker shelf look factory new. The front seats are in outstanding condition with minimal wear and are still extremely supple. The headliner is very good, but has some typical minor discoloration, etc…. The gauges, knobs, and switches are like new with no sign of wear at all. Overall, this all original 36-year old interior is absolutely amazing! MECHANICALS I don’t know what to say except that it pretty much runs and drives like new! It had a new clutch installed at around 80K miles, the brakes are nearly 50% all the way around, compression is about 150 lbs. in all six cylinders, it shifts perfectly even when cold, and I just had it smogged (October 23rd) and it passed with flying colors. In the 1 ½ years that I have had the pleasure of owning this car I have driven it about 1,500 miles. Around 95K I had a full service performed which included new spark plugs, cap, rotor, engine oil service, transmission service, valve adjustment, new fuel injectors, new shifter bushings, new sunroof cables, warm-up regulator, new master cylinder and had four brand new tires mounted on the absolutely perfect (zero road rash) Fuchs 16” alloy wheels. I also had the factory exhaust modified to its present look which gives it a much throatier sound. It sounds awesome and in my opinion this is the way the exhaust should have looked when it left the factory in Germany. EXTERIOR When I purchased this car the mostly original Petrol Blue paint looked great! But up very close, one could see some checking on the front hood from being painted several years ago due to rock chips. Also, the left rear fender had a foot long key scratch. So, although my 911 looked beautiful from five feet away, I decided to have the best restoration shop in the area apply an $8,000 paint job in the original factory color (with receipt, of course). To be honest, they did even a better job than I expected. It looks phenomenal, especially in the sunlight. Most people probably would not have painted an already lovely looking car such as this one, but the original tan interior was so nice, it deserved it. Money well spent! When it was painted (exactly one year ago) the car had 94,836 miles. It now has 95,8XX. It still looks virtually flawless as if it were painted yesterday. REASON FOR SELLING We recently began an extensive remodel of our beach house. The cost is significantly higher than we had anticipated, so instead of dipping into our savings, I’m selling a handful of my vintage German cars. Please note that this is not an un-driven 2014 Porsche, nor has it undergone a complete, nut and bolt concours restoration. Having said this it is an exquisite example of an incredibly original 36-year old Porsche 911 sure to give you years of driving pleasure and admiration from others who won't believe how beautiful your Porsche is. As you know this is a virtual auction. Please be sure to view my car in person during the auction timeframe if you are uncomfortable paying for my car in full prior to seeing it. Payment in full will be due within 72 hours of the auction closing – no exceptions. Funds can either be wired to my Wells Fargo Bank account, or a cashier’s check is sufficient as well. The car will not be released until funds have cleared. I am available to answer any questions by phone at 916-220-2460. I WILL NOT respond to emails. Thanks for your interest and good Luck.
