Vehicle Detail
Please check out the 24 pictures for you to view. Some are two in one pictures. This is a 2 door 1972 Mercury Comet. They are very similar to the Ford Maverick of this year with some slight body style difference. This was a very fun car to drive around in about 6 years ago when we had it looking pretty good and running pretty good. It has had the 302 v8 motor taken out about 6 years ago since it was in need of rebuilding. Since then, we didn't have the money to fix the motor up and put it back in. The car has been sitting without a motor for around 6 years. The paint job has gone bad. We never finished puttying and smoothing out some rust areas as you can see in the pictures, especially around the wheel wells. As far as rust goes, it has some bondo work due to rust in the trunk pocket areas, around the wheel wells, and some other areas. The car was inspected and on the road until the motor was pulled. The frame was in good condition and probably still is since it hasn't been driven or been exposed to salt for the past 6 years since it wasn't running. The glass is in good shape with no cracks. The interior needs some work since the door panels are original but have shrunk some. The split bench seat has a seat cover over it since there are some tears in the original interior under the seat cover. The top of the dashboard has the dash pad missing and somebody put some long haired cloth over it. The carpet is holding up somewhat. The floor pans are starting to rust loose from the rocker panels, but they have not broken through completely. The engine we sold to someone years ago. It was not the original motor since this was originally a 6 cylinder car that someone had converted to take the 302. The engine compartment is in ok condition. There are some areas of rust starting near the shock towers. The hood doesn't look very rusty yet, although someone has installed hood pins in the past and a scoop has been bolted to the center of the hood which looks like a scoop off of a 1980's Mustang. The wiring was in decent shape 6 years ago since most everything worked like the headlights, blinkers, interior light, windshield wipers, heater control. The heater core was in good shape and worked well. We do have and are giving you the original radiator. We have the drive shaft. We also have the c4 transmission with torque converter still under this car. It also comes with the 4 lug 8 inch rear. We did have a mechanic install a 4.11 gear ratio ring and pinion which did make the car pretty quick. The rear is a non posi traction. The trunk area is only showing two small rust holes. We didn't go poking around to see if the rest of it is sturdy. The front bumper was painted when we received the car. The chrome is probably no good. The rear bumper was also painted and it got struck in one area and has filler over that dented rusted area. It comes with the aluminum slots that you see. They are in good shape but need polished up. The tires on these rims have some tread left. The two front ones match each other and the two rear ones match each other. They are two different pairs of tires. The one rear one used to have and still does have a slow leak. You can see it is aired all the way down in the picture. It is non powered drum brakes all the way around and the steering is non power steering. There is no radio in the dashboard. The dashboard in in pretty good condition and the odometer reads 04659.3. These old cars did not have a digit for the hundred thousand miles, so the body most likely has 104 thousand on it. The car used to drive pretty good on the road. It has a B&M race style shifter for the automatic although the hand grip is missing. We have misplaced the sun visors since they were dropping down into the view of the windshield. We can't seem to find them. The headliner on this car is in pretty good shape for the age. It does have a sport steering wheel on it which needs a horn button to be complete. We would love to find someone to buy this car that would at least bring it back to being on the road or if you have a lot of money, go ahead and restore it completely. This car is over 40 years old now and deserves to be fixed and not rotting away any longer. The PA title on this car is good in my name. The car is being sold AS IS obviously since it does not run, has no motor in it, and needs to be pretty much restored. Do ask any and all questions before purchasing it. The purchaser needs to pay for the vehicle within 2 or 3 days from the time of purchase. Also since we will be going into winter soon here in Pennsylvania, it would be appreciated and expected that the purchaser arranged to pick up this car or have a courier pick up this car within three weeks give or take a day or so. We do have another 1972 Comet with good PA title sitting right next to this one. If you are in the market for both of them, let us know and we can take a few pictures of the other car which also hasn't had a motor in it for about 15 years or so. We will be selling it on ebay also soon. Here is our phone number: 814-644-6886 ask for Doug. You can call anytime. We have an answering machine. Leave your name and number if you don't get a hold of us. We will call you back.
