I have a 1952 F-1 Ford pickup that is ready to take to the next level. I purchased this truck in March of this year in Issaquah, Washington from a young man who owned it with his grandfather. The truck was purchased by them around 2008. They were told by the seller the engine had been rebuilt around 1996 and did not have a lot of miles. The truck appears to be originally a light gray color and was repainted red. Some trim was replaced along the way. It was a good running driving truck when the grandson decided he would rather have a 4 wheel drive newer rig. As a result the truck was parked on the side of the house and covered with a tarp under a grove of fir trees for a couple of years. While working in Seattle and received a call that I could have a space at the local swap meet for a car. I pulled up the local Craigslist ads and came across this 1952 F-1 being sold as is so it was purchased to take to the swap meet. The “as is” turned out to be a lot more work than I planned on. The tarp protecting the rig had blown off and rain and fir needles started working over the new oak in the box as it was partially exposed to the elements. The also allowed moisture to get in to the cab as the windows were slightly rolled down under the tarp. When I went to push the car out the front brakes were locked as well. The moisture had broken down the lining material and then adhered itself to the drum. By the way on the day I picked it up it was a rain drenching Pacific Northwest day. Ultimately the truck was wenched up on my trailer and headed back for Portland. With the swap meet only two weeks away I had work to do. Fix the brakes, get it started and get the coating of green fir tree fuzz off of the red paint. Did not happen…. So in the past 6 months I removed the front brakes, changed the linings and the wheel cylinders and the brakes work great. With a new solenoid, new 6 volt battery, points and condenser and starting fluid in the carb it fired right up and drove it several blocks and all mechanicals seem to work fine. This was the first year for Ford’s six cylinder overhead valve engine. When running it sounds like the valves need adjustment. The entire body was scrubbed to remove the tree green coating and polished by hand. Then the box was removed all of the ruined, rotted oak bed boards that by the way were in great shape where it was covered. New oak boards were cut, sanded and 4 coats of marine varnish were applied along with new metal slats and a full set of bed bolts. While the box was off I removed the 16 inch original wheels and truck tires. I had the original wheels powder coated red and new 16 inch radials were added. As I looked the springs and saw how many there were, it was built to haul, I decided a set of Posie Slider leaf springs were needed. Lowering the rear 3 inches and the front 2 inches with these installed. At the same time new shocks were added front and rear. All of the lights are working except the headlights so I bought a new switch and that did not fix the light issue. Overall there is little to know rust of any serious nature on this truck. The only rust I have seen is in the area where the fronts of the fenders bolt to the back of the running boards. There is a little bubbling in two or three spots but nothing major. I will try to capture all of those areas in the pictures. The interior is in good shape with a recovered seat. The paint on the dashboard is a checked and should be redone. The interior will need a new headliner as well. All of the glass is good and the windows roll up and down with a little help. There is surface rust under the dash on most metal surfaces that cleans up fairly easy. As of today the truck starts but only with starting fluid and runs. I have the 1904 Holley rebuild kit but have ran out of time to finish all the way. This is one really straight classic F-1. This would make a great shop truck by adding a 289 and a C-4 as well as a 12 volt conversion. Bottom line is it will need carburater work to be a driver. Electrical system will need some work as well to have headlights. Prior owner added a couple of kill switches to the ignition and lighting system. Both are easy mechanical fixes. Now has a great stance with the new Posie sliders, shocks and the new lower profile tires. My goal is to get $7995 for this truck and will be a value at that for the new owner. Please if you have any other questions. With just a little work you have a running, driving classic Ford F-1 Truck! Please review all pictures carefully!
