Vehicle Detail
NOTE - This is a 1984 Mercedes 500 SEL. This vehicle is the European edition, and thus the VIN does not match eBay's records. I have listed the car as a "1980" so the listing would work. I have a clear Ohio title and the VIN matches the car. This car is completely legal in the US, but is known as a "grey market" vehicle as it was imported directly to the US by the original buyer. This is the actual VIN: 1984 500 SEL - WDB1260371A005435 0 0 1 508 2898 Razor Entertainment 24 6 3400 14.0 96 800x600 Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE This is a rare example of a beautiful Mercedes 500 series. Mercedes did not import this car during 1984 - it was brought direct to the US by the original owner. We are the second owners of this vehicle. Referred to as a "grey market" vehicle, these cars have slightly different styling than the US import vehicles. The car was originally purchased in Texas and spent all but the last 2 years there - thus, the body has no rust (see pics). The 500 series was the largest sedan produced in that era. The SEL designation refers to "Sedan", (German for) "Fuel Injection" and "Long Wheelbase". Paperwork is included showing original purchase info, repair work and updates. For a vehicle of this age to have only 100K miles on it is unusual. These engines routinely get 400K on them. The only reason we are selling is fuel - to be honest, I drive a lot for business and this big 8 gets pretty thirsty in town. Highway mileage is pretty good, but with fuel prices today, I can no longer justify the cost. On the road, this thing floats - one of the nicest rides I have owned. If you want a terrific touring car or a highway driver - this is the best example you will find. Rear wheel drive with lots of weight, so the ride is excellent. Probably not phenomenal in snow (with rear wheel drive), but we have not tried it. Only driven in good weather. We have stored this vehicle for the past three winters. It has been garaged for the past year as I have not been driving it much. This vehicle had over $2000 worth of maintenance done when we purchased it 4 years ago. It has been a great daily driver and runs out very smooth on the road. If you purchase this car, you can be sure that it will be a solid driver right off the bat. Below please find a list of the repairs and updates: New battery 2011 New plugs and wire set 2011 Complete Tune- Up 2011 All new belts 2011 Substantial brake work done - all 4 wheels 2011 New exhaust from the block to the muffler 2011 New high wattage CD player and 4 speakers 2010 Timing chain and water pump replaced 2010 Transmission fluid changed and shifter adjusted Shocks replaced In the interest of full disclosure, here is a list of items that will need to checked or maintained in the next few years: A/C needs to be recharged - cool now but not cold Driver's side rear view mirror is not able to be moved - may need to be replaced or repaired Could use new tires in the next year or two The drivers seat springs are worn (original owner was a big guy). We have bolstered them and the seat is very comfortable, but for long term someone should probably put new springs in. Electric motors work on it. Notes on condition: The exterior is in great shape. Paint still looks new, no rust at all, body moldings / trim all intact and in great shape. Wheels are also in great shape. No dents or dings. One slight scratch that could be buffed out on the roof. No work in any way is needed on the exterior body, save a minor repair to the driver's side rear view mirror. The interior has no flaws. The leather upholstery has no cracks and no fades. The headliner is perfect. The back seat is huge and is electric - the whole bench slides and reclines at the touch of a button. Trunk looks brand new as well - lots of room.Payment in full is required at the time of sale / end of auction. Buyer is responsible for picking up the vehicle / transporting the vehicle. Seller may be able to assist with arrangements. If you are in the Akron, OH area, feel free to come and drive this car. For more pics please email to the listing email.
