Vehicle Detail
For Sale is a 1971 Mercedes-Benz 220D. This unusual car is finished in 717 Papyrus white with a green MB tex vinyl interior. It is equipped with a floor shift 4 speed automatic, air conditioing, Becker California AM radio and the wonderful OM615 diesel engine. We have all of the original purchase documents with the vehicle, and it is a genuine 2 owner car. It was sold new at L.P. Evans Mercedes-Benz in Miami to Mrs. Carrie Patterson Smith of Melbourne. I first came across this car in 2005 when her son sold it to one of our customers. The pictures tell all- we have all of the manuals, the tool kit and the documents related to her registration and insurance over the years. The current condition of this car is reflective of how long it has sat- roughly 4 years. When it was acquired in 2005, it had sat some more, but fluid services were performed and items like tires and brake hoses were replaced, and it was used again until about 2009. The second owner did not do this car justice, and when he tired of it, he parked it. We recently rescued it from him and got it running again. Here are the car’s strengths: -Excellent green interior and dash. Carpets are deteriorating, but are still usable. - Excellent transmission and rear axle. Transmission was completely resealed in 2007. - Good key structural points on body, such as firewall, channels in unibody and frontal area. -Doors are mostly free of rust, as are C-pillars and rear quarters -Healthy compression [310-305-310-315]- valves not adjusted. -Engine does run, has good temperatures, good oil pressure, etc. -AC system was functioning fully until it was parked, if it were recharged it would most likely hold air and blow accordingly. New hoses and expansion valve were replaced in 2006. -Maintenance was kept up until 2009. Here are the cars weaknesses: -Rust repair needed to floor pans(rear driver's side floor pan is rusted through), trunk floor, front fender bottoms and a little bit on the rockers. All of these items are repairable and do not require great expense. Please see photos for details. -Injection pump does not deliver fuel on number three delivery valve, making starting and idling difficult. Injection pump will need to be rebuilt, and we can assist the buyer in this process for a separate fee. -Paint is in poor condition. While this car is not a roadworthy car, it is a very good project car. We DO NOT encourage you to bid if you are going to use the car for parts, or if you are uncertain of whether or not you can handle this kind of work. This car should go to a good home where it will be rehabilitated and enjoyed by someone who is passionate about older Mercedes diesels. Please look at our extensive photos, and enjoy bidding on this lovable little 220D! Buyer is fully responsibly for arrangement and dues of transport, we will assist your selected transporter with pick up.
