Vehicle Detail

I bough this bug eight years ago to be a backup car. It was a great car in the snow. The heater channels are good. I could keep the windscreen defrosted. The heater boxes on the engine exhaust need to be replaced because I could smell oil. I had to park it because the oil seal ( rear main) failed. I immediately shut down the engine. I believe I averted any engine damage. In the last 3 years I have been too busy with work and other commitments to effect the necessary repairs. I recommend a complete rebuild of the non original 1600 single port (from a 1969 square back) or replacement with an engine build up of your choice. The transmission shifted fine. The clutch was good. Tires are over 5 years old but have never gone flat. The spare tire is included. It's storage well appears to be rust free. The interior smells jut like you'd expect a VW to smell like. Must be something in the vinyl. ;-) Battery tray is rusted through. Fenders and rear apron have filler. Engine has a major rear main seal leak. Horn ring and button are stored in a box and belong to the winning bidder.ignition switch was damaged by a thief. I have a start system using a toggle for power and push button to start. No radio. Drivers seat as a rigged lever to tip seat. Fuel door release same way. But they both work. Rear defogger needs a relay. Running boards rusty. The car was originally baby blue, now it is blue-gray. Muffler needs to be replaced. Only one resonator. Headliner is white but showing some age and fading. The sun visors are like new, but the holding catches are broken. They were plastic. I am including new running boards, a carburetor rebuild kit, steering wheel horn ring and button. This would make a great project for a VW aficionado. On Oct-01-14 at 16:03:21 PDT, seller added the following information: The chrome on the rear glass is dinged from a time when a brick went through. I bought a salvage rear defogger glass and a new seal and had them professionally installed. I kept it tarped the two weeks I took to find the glass. I am also including 2 additional stock steel wheels. (No tires). These were to be used with snow tires. On Oct-02-14 at 13:56:36 PDT, seller added the following information: The rear bumper is original German chrome. The chrome is strong though it shows some age. It has a bend in it from the previous owner. I bought the front bumper 8 years ago brand new. Made in Mexico. It rusted in TWO WEEKS to the patina you see today. The air cleaner is the original OIL BATH cleaner. I liked it a lot. I thought it did a thorough job of trapping contaminants. On Oct-04-14 at 11:21:23 PDT, seller added the following information: I remember that I have the original points set from the ignition conversion to Pertronix. FYI. If the electronics goes bad you can switch back to the old system on the roadside. Another cool item is the engine is equipped with Empi finned aluminum valve covers that BOLT ON! These solved my oil leak problems prior to the rear main seal leak.I did not keep the old bale wires. I did keep the hardware if you want to convert back to stock. Just no bales.
