Vehicle Detail
1939 SPECIAL – Turret Top Stream Board Rare Options Yes - its re-listed due to it being listed as the wrong model. I thought I was cancelling the auction and "ended" it early to the high bidder. This was not the intent. The intent was to cancel the auction and list it correctly as a "Special". No Reserve One of only about 24 known left on the planet. Up for sale is a very original super rare 1939 Buick Special Series 40 Model 41 Fisher Style 4419A with the special ordered turret top and streamboards. 1939 was a big year for Buick in terms of their styling and fashion. The 1930's were coming to an end and the 1940's were on the horizon. In the world of automotive design, the 1930's had been stellar. Lots of experimentation had resulted in big changes for cars and trucks. This would be the final year for the Buick headlights to be located externally. The grill was updated giving a new and unique appearance. There are dual mounted spare tires with full hard covers. The 'Stream Board' running boards were optional equipment at the time, but the original owner chose to purchase them, completing a wonderful ensemble. Now for the meat and potatoes of this Buick. This is a 2 owner estate car which was purchased from the daughter of the original owner’s estate. The 60 year old daughter confirmed, that that this car was garaged its entire life by her father and only driven to church on Sundays (believe what you will, this is what the original owners daughter confirmed with us). It was one in his collection of many, and again, only used to drive to church resulting in 12,000 ORIGINAL miles. The Buick has sat idle for the last 35-40 years in a temperature controlled garage. The car has its original headliner, door panels, seat upholstery, but has been repainted at some point with the original color. The car starts (lever on steering column and gas pedal pushed to start), runs and drives like a dream. Here is everything we know about this car. Short and sweet. Body- -No filler, damage or rust. One repaint. Minor ding here or there. You have to hunt hard for them. -2 small areas of rust lower body in corner near stream board. (one on each side, I photo’d the worst of the 2) -Stream boards great shape. -Brightwork is driver quality with most being better then driver quality. -Turret top locks and slides to open -Suicide doors -Paint is shiney and shows very nice. Nice enough to display or show. -Some chipping at the trunk lip from rubbing some. -The floor pans and frame are in incredibly good condition – no rust Drive train- -The Buick sports ts all original straight 8 engine, manual trans and rear end. - The car was serviced with new fluids. -The gas tank was unhooked from the carb. The car runs off a portable 3 gallon boat gas tank. -The original fuel tank has 30 year old gas in it. It does not leak however it needs dropped, cleaned and re-installed. -No fluid leaks on the ground, however does show some seepage on the bottom of the motor. -The car shifts and drives well. No grinding between gears. Clutch feels good. Suspension- -Shocks appear to have been replaced at some point -Most of the front end looks to be original but oddly enough doesn’t float all over the place. -Tires hold air and have plenty of tread. There is minor checking on the sides but seem to be trustworthy. -There is a spare tire in the trunk. -The brakes have been gone through and it stops on a dime. Interior- -The interior is original. The door panels are stained here and there. -The seats are decent. -The headliner is discolored -The arm rest at the top of the doors is worn some. -The dash wood grain veneer or metal is tired looking but suitable. -The doors need new weather strips. They were pulled off because they were petrified. -Radio turns on – no sound. -Horn works and gas gauge appears to work. -All exterior lights work except for left blinker. The Buick comes with some of its original paper work, manuals, owners guide and other documents not photographed.
