Vehicle Detail
1991 Honda CRX HF Model Body in pretty solid & straight shape - no collision history as far as I know, has a little peeling paint on front bumper, a missing plastic accessory piece and some accessory exterior plastic & rubber that probably needs replacing but nothing major. Honda came from New Mexico prior to the owner who had it before us, so it has virtually no rust. Car has blown piston rings in cylinder's 2 & 3 most likely, performed wet test & compression improved. Honda has been sitting for over a year - started the engine rebuild project last fall but life got in the way, interior is a little mildewy but has been dried out for the summer, should clean up fast with simple green or something like. Engine has been stripped of parts except manifold & cylinder head remain to remove. All engine parts that were removed, were labeled & bagged in car, kept dry, ready to go, and two new piston ring sets will go with the car. Will probably needs a new battery. CAR gets 38-55 MPG when running, exceptional gas mileage. Have all maintenance records since 2009, previous owner put quite a bit into vehicle for maintenance - new master brake cylinder, front brake rotors, rear wheel cylinder, alternator belt, cam seal, timing belt, crank seal, valve cover gasket, radiator cap, water pump at 161, 924 miles. We didn't have it very long, about 3200 miles before piston rings blew, have one too many projects to take this one, totally bummed - mileage rewards were awesome, but it's time for that 180,000 miles on the engine to be renewed. Performed oil changes regularly (two!), replaced fuel filter, pump & spark plugs @ 186, 630 and main relay switch @ 186, 713 while we had it. Have receipts for work. Last oil change at 186, 980. All lights, signals, defrosters (including rear) worked when it was running. Needs new tires, tires will hold air for towing. Stereo is great & newer-CD & USB/Aux for Ipod, etc. Driver's door is a little 'sticky', needs to be lifted up to open. Driver's seat has a tear -we have a padded seat cushion over it & a large seat cover over that. Seats work, slide forward & back fine. Spare tire & jack are present, spare tire has air. Rear hatch opens great. All doors & locks work. Car has 2 sets of keys. Fuel gauge is off for some reason (reads lower than it is, so we went by mileage - try to drive no more than 300 miles without filling it). Did we say the car gets 38-55 MPG. WE LOVE THIS PART! Hood on driver's side has a little dimple that sticks up, not sure why...... Hood doesn't always latch properly-you have to double check to make sure. Heaters worked great when running. Car is fun on corners when it runs! Windows work great. Sunroof was sealed shut by previous owner (he thought there was a leak was coming from it), but water's still getting in from somewhere (we've been keeping it tarped as we don't have a garage). Sunroof seal has been cut and works fine. There's is a leak somewhere but never could find from where....gets a little water in the driver's side pan if you're driving out and about but not much. The previous owner had cut the driver's side mat in half to make sure it didn't rust out the pan (see photo). We have a rubber mat to cover this, and have been doing our best to make sure the area stays dry. Tabs are currently expired. Honda shouldn't take much to rebuild engine if you have the know how - a local mechanic thought about $750 in quality, new parts and your time and you have yourself a virtually new engine, plus throw in new tires, a battery and find a few spare parts at a junkyard and you have a pimped out vehicle that gets great gas mileage, has a straight body with no rust and should last awhile. $1800 or so and you can swap in a new engine without a rebuild. Either way, it's a great project for what you'll get in return. Would be especially great to have a garage or covered area to work on your project..... We live on San Juan Island, so getting to the car will be interesting - we can provide a commuter price ferry ticket (for an additional $33) for car & driver if your car is under 22'. It would be especially ideal if you rented your own tow dolly that could be transported in the back of a truck to not pay for a longer length when one gets on the ferry in Anacortes to Friday Harbor. You do not pay for the ferry when heading east, so the return from Friday Harbor to Anacortes does not charge for length. Towing a vehicle to the mainland that direction is therefore free. We're happy to work with the buyer on travel details and tips as it's not as straightforward if we lived on the mainland. Please ask any questions and more specific photos can be provided upon request. All maintenance records will go with the car.
