Vehicle Detail

I am the second owner of this Classic Motor Carriages CMC based Porsche Speedster Replica. This car was built and registered by the first owner in 1997 on a 1974 Super Beetle chassis and is currently titled/registered as a 1974 Volkswagen 356 Replica in the state of Georgia. I accepted delivery of this car in 2011 with approximately 11,000 miles on the odometer. Based on the wear and tear on the vehicle I believe the mileage on the kit is accurate. I have since added an additional 2500 miles. The wife and I take it out for ice cream and cruises up to the lake. The car has always been a pleasure to drive, definitely an attention getter and receives compliments where-ever it goes. It will be missed in our garage, but family health issues have taken prescience and we would like to see move onto a new home. Exterior: Overall the gellcoat is in very good shape with no areas of fading. There is some minor spider cracks on one of the rear fenders. a chip in the hood. The hood also doesn't line up perfectly. It has a OK but good paint job with some orange peel. I intended on having the car resprayed so have invested little time here. But I did a little wet sanding on a few areas and observed very positive results in you wanted to give it some extra effort. The headlights and taillights are new. Nerf bars are not installed (they will found in the trunk when you take delivery) There is a known but not fully investigated issue with the turn signals (once a loose cable, eating a few bulbs, once a signal generator) The top overall is in good shape. There is a tear by the driver side (pictured.) New "cruzin" windows (they look great!) are included in the purchase. Chrome accessories (side view mirrors and license plate holder) have some minor pitting. Nothing you will take note of until you are only a few feet away. Engine/Mechanical: There is a less then 1000 miles on a freshly rebuilt 1800cc engine. A few minor parts (distributor, alternator, dog house cooler) were reused from the original 1600cc engine. The remaining is new. AS41 case with case savers, 6.9:1 compression, 88MM "thick wall" pistons, Dellorto DRLA 40 carbs, CB 90x35 heads with 1.25 ratio rockers, chromoly pushrods, Bosch 009 distributor, Engle cam, lightweight flywheel, sachs heavy duty clutch, extra deep oil sump (5.5qts), hideaway exhaust. Intakes have been port matched, engine static balanced, heads have a minor polish, heavy duty/hi rev springs. Engine seal is good, the compartment has been lined with astrofoil to keep noise in and heat out of the engine compartment. It is a rev happy engine with a nice torque band. You will have no trouble keeping up with traffic. All parts where sourced from Aircooled.net, CB performance, and Chicos. There are no oil leaks except for the typical drip from the oil drain nuts (currently using the old paper gaskets with copper washers) The drip is very minimal... and only one or two... usually while sitting. The transmission is a standard 4 speed manual with a hurst reverse lockout shifter. The transmission is original with the car and is beginning to show its age. I have replaced with gear oil with Royal Purple Synthetic and it his greatly smoothed out gear shift changes. All gears up and down are very smooth with the exception of the 3/2 downshift being rather clunky. A double clutch or rev match is often required to ensure a smooth 3/2 downshift. There is a heavy duty battery in the trunk with a cutoff switch to ensure you never get stuck or the car never gets stolen. Interior: Interior is black on black vinyl and original with the car. Overall condition is OK There is a tear in the drivers seat, and the leather steering wheel is worn. The front windshield has a crack. (replacement can be found @ vintagespeedsters.com) Stereo is circa 1997. Gauges are the original "vintage" gauges from CMC (speed, tach, volts, fuel, oil temp, oil pressure) They are not superb quality gauges but will give accurate enough readings. The Oil pressure gauge is not working. I have replaced the gauge and the oil pressure sender. It must be a wiring issue. All the gauges are backlit and look fantastic on a the cruise home after a day on the lake. Windshield wipers (I have had them removed) will be re-installed for delivery. They will require new blades.... this is not exactly a car where you will want to try driving in the rain. Suspension: Suspension is of a typical Beetle type. There are new shocks and tires (<1000 miles) along with front disc and rear drum brakes. Handling is good, stops when and where it needs to. Rims with Porsche caps are balanced. There is some pitting on the chrome and some of the trim paint has flaked. Extras: A very nice car cover is included with the sale. I will be including lots of extra parts along with the sale. All the parts you need to tune the car, all the parts you need to remove the engine, all the parts you need to rebuild the engine will be found in the trunk when you take delivery. There is will also be a brand new chrome alternator (~$250) and a second set of Dellorto DRLA 40 carbs (rebuilt ~$600) in the trunk. I also have an engine stand that I will include (this will not fit in the car you will need to arrange shipping) This is by no means a perfect car and the new owner should plan to spend some time working to make it their own. In the intern, you will confident to turn the key and take her for a nice spin whenever you feel like it!. Car is located in Norcross GA, 30096 and available for viewing and a test drive at any time. Hagerty insurance with a certified $20k replacement value is $334/year. JJ Best offers great classic car financing.. Car is sold is. Car is advertised for sale locally. I reserve the right to end auction early.
