Vehicle Detail

I purchased this car from the original owner, who bought the car in Covina, California in June 1980. It was always garaged and well maintained. He took great pride in the car and was a member of the Triumph car club. It has been driven an average of 3000 miles per year and now has approx 96,500 miles. I purchased the car this spring and have thoroughly enjoyed racking up 1000 miles as my daily driver over the last four months. I purchased 5 year collector plates because I planned on keeping this car for a long time. Unfortunately my situation has changed and I no longer have the garage space. This car deserves to be garaged. This is a fun, affordable, and unique convertible with the following key attributes: 1) Diligently cared for by the original owner for 34 years and then by me for the last four months. Wipers, window washer, horn, lights, fog lights, odometer reset, speedometer, tachometer, turn signals, ventilation controls, locks, windows, clock, heat gauge, etc. all work. The only things I can think of that don't work is the air conditioning and emergency flashers. Most cars this age, especially English cars, have suffered neglect, with each subsequent owner providing less and less care. 2) This car is road ready and I currently driven regularly throughout the week. Maintenance is current (see “Particulars” section below for a detailed listing). Many expensive components such as windshield, convertible top, battery, tires, and brakes are new or near new. Everything mechanical and electrical works (except the air conditioner and emergency flashers). 3) This car is solid due to dry climates and garage storage. The only rust I can find is light surface rust on some parts of the undercarriage (see last several photos). These areas are solid, surface rust only. 4) Passes Colorado emissions with the factory delivered fuel injection and catalytic converter. 5) Disclosure of both positive and negative for the life of the car (see “Particulars” section below for a detailed listing). Please see my long history of 100% positive feedback. My reserve is $2900 and I can be reached at 720 454 5988 to discuss the car or offers. You can find TR7s or other same era sport cars for less money but they will have numerous mechanical, electrical, cosmetic, or structural issues. This is a car you can drive and enjoy immediately and I would not hesitate to drive this car across country. If you would like more information, call me on 720 454 5988 and please leave a message if I don’t answer, I will call you back as soon as possible. If you need to ship the car, the website Uship.com can find the least expensive transport and is a great source. If you want to pay for a pre-purchase inspection, I will help coordinate the inspection. The car is sold, as is, with no warranty. I would be interested in a trade or partial trade for a vintage motorcycle – I can fit a motorcycle into my garage. Particulars - Maintenance History and Disclosures: Overview – This car is in excellent condition for a 1980 TR7. To be clear upon close examination you will find chips, scratches, minor dents, interior wear, etc, because it has been enjoyed since new. It is no longer a new car and it is not perfect. May thru Aug 2014 (96442 miles) – · passed Colorado emissions test engine oil and filter changed (no discernible use of oil over 1000 miles)· air filter changed · brake fluid changed · clutch fluid changed · coolant changed · new spark plugs and ignition wires · new maintenance free DEKA battery · new driver side roll up window regulator June 1980 thru April 2014 (items with specific dates have receipts) · New 175/70R13 tires, 88253 miles, from Big O Tires, Yuma, AZ- 6/4/2004 · New front brake rotors and pads · Rear brake drums turned and new brake shoes · New starter motor and solenoid from Kats British Service, Englewood, CO – 3/26/08 · New viscous radiator cooling fan · New windshield · New convertible top and boot (although there were no receipts on these, both look like new) · Oil leak from sender switch and oil pump housing repaired Kats British Service, Englewood, CO – 3/31/2008 · Window regulator adjusted Kats British Service, Englewood, CO – 3/31/2008 · New exhaust from catalytic convert back from Kats British Service, Englewood, CO – 3/26/2008 · 5 speed gearbox rebuilt - 1986 · Engine rebuild after cylinder compression was below spec in two cylinders (head milled, new valves, valve seals, piston rings, and rod bearings). The first owner bought a new piston set however after measuring the cylinders and pistons he decided to just replace the rings. I will include the unused piston set with the car. – April & May 1994 · Valve lash adjusted at Heads by Paul, Englewood, CO - 5/10/1994 · Repaint on sandblasted, bare body done in Yuma, AZ - 2004 · Alignment, 29685 miles, at Global West Montclair, CA – 9/12/1983 · Purchased from Southland Motors, Covina, CA $10715 – 8/23/80 Additional Disclosures: You will notice many of the above maintenance items do not have the exact date or mileage. The original owner did not keep all receipts and many maintenance items he performed himself. The factory air quit working sometime in the 1980’s. The compressor drive belt was removed but all the factory installed air conditioning equipment and controls are in place – only the belt was removed. · The emergency flashers don’t work. The radio does not pick up AM or FM because the antenna is not connected. A cassette tape will play. · The convertible boot is a tight fit. I leave it out in the sun for an hour before attempting to snap the boot in place. · Even though the top is new, some water will drip down the inside of the side windows in a rain storm. The car leaves several drops of oil on the floor every night. Sometimes the steering wheel develops a slight oscillation/wiggle felt by the fingertips at speeds over 45 mph. I can find no play in any of the suspension and steering components so I believe this is caused by a slight imbalance in the wheels that only occurs when the two wheels slight imbalance synchs up to cause the occasional oscillation. If you are not familiar with the TR7, it was the Triumph car company's last car, they went out of business in 1981. Please research the internet for the pros and cons of this car prior to bidding. You will read cons regarding structural rust, poor build quality in early cars (1975 - 1978), and overheating and resultant head warping -- these issues DO NOT afflict this car -- dry climates and garages, good build quality in the Canley factory for the 1980 model year, and no overheating in stop and go Denver traffic mid 90's temperatures where two additional electric fans (standard on air conditioned cars) keep the engine temp down have all proven themselves in this particular car. It starts easily first thing in the morning (low 50s temps coldest so far this summer), idles smoothly, runs well, and shifts well. · This is a 34 year old English car. It will require “fettling” at some point in it's remaining years. Fettling is viewed as “opportunity” by some and as a “curse” by others. If you are not familiar with older cars, especially English cars, please feel free to call me 720 454 5988 to discuss. · Car is used and therefore sold “as is, where is, no warranty”. If you live in the Denver area, please arrange to look at the car in person. I will provide additional photos of anything you request (within reason). If you are not local, I will help coordinate a pre-purchase inspection if done prior to the end of the auction – potential buyer to pay for the inspection. There is a british specialist shop fairly close to where I live. A $500 deposit must be paid via paypal within 48 hours of auction completion and remaining payment must be received and cleared into my account by September 6, 2014. Pick up and transfer of title will not happen until my bank assures me all funds have cleared. If you need additional time for pick up/temporary storage, please contact me on 720 454 5988 prior to bidding. Thank you for looking and reading On Aug-25-14 at 11:23:54 PDT, seller added the following information: Original owner rebuilt the top end of the engine in 1994 due to low compression in two cylinders. I don't know the exact mileage but the original owner told me it was "about 80000 miles" on the odometer at the time of rebuild. Please see "Particulars" section for additional detail.
