Vehicle Detail
t Here we have a true blast from the past, a 1974 Chevy Van, with trick body shortening eliminating side door, extra weight, and making it look super cool. To top it off, is an Olds Vista Cruiser roof, al'a that 70's show, custom grafted in as well. These vans don't show up hardly ever, these days, and the cost just to do a basic body shortening would be astronomical, if you could even find someone willing to do it. This van has a 350 chevy motor, with holley 750 4 barrel carb, and holley bug catcher intake. It's got mirrors on the ceiling, black shag carpet, Cragar mags with big Pro-Trac tires, custom wood shelving and panels, it's a true time machine. OK............I bought this van 4 years ago, with the intention of tooling around town, raising all kinds of ruckus. I got too busy to play with it, I had other cool cars, so I've done nothing with it, but let it sit on my concrete driveway. The best way to describe this van's level of completion, is its all there, and it needs minor post-engine install hose and wire hookups to get it running. The motor looks pretty quick, and I was told it was from a low mileage rebuild from a 90's Chevy Blazer, with a mild truck cam in it. Trans is a 350 turbo, and this too is said to be low mileage rebuild fresh. The back story I got about this van, is that it was a featured show van in the Seventies, it got put away in a Sea Container for many years, and was brought back out. I picked it up, and although I love it, and it gets tons of attention, it's just not getting any use by me hoarding it. I've turned down high cash offers, and trade offers, and I still love the van. I am ready to let it go, mainly because I bought a big Jeep wrangler, with which I'm doing everything I bought the van to do. The ONLY THING holding me back from running this van, which does have current MD tags, in my name (so it can easily be tagged and titled, despite it having a SALVAGE TITLE-which is what they gave you back in the day, when you made alterations to the body of this sort.IS I HAVE A PIECE OF LINKAGE MISSING that goes between the rotator with the tube and ears, that acts as the link between the column and the tranny. It's just a short, simple piece of linkage, but I don't have it.I've been wracking my brain for years now, but I'm not a welder or fabricator, and I am simply too tight with a buck to spend money on one of those fancy shmancy shifters. The day after I buy it, I'll trip over the missing piece in a parking lot somewhere. Get that straight, and you can just finish the radiator hoses and such, and get rollin,. Another thing I just remembered is that it has no bumpers, front or rear. They were MIA when I bought it, and although I've seen sets come up on eBay, I couldn't justify putting good used chrome bumpers on a van that I haven't got running yet. There is a little funky stuff going on at the end of the frame horn, under the battery, but its still got mounting tabs for the bumper. The roof is showing some need of attention, as far as re doing some of the fiberglass work, but I know it's all metal, just fiber for smoothness, so it doesn't worry me. I've been offered $4,000, and turned it down. I'll let it go for TWO GRAND !!!!!!!!!!!!, just to kiss it good bye, AND BLOW IT OUTTA HERE. That's basically breaking even for me. . I've got a horseshoe shifter which I'll include that I'm ready to tinker with, so you can have that to begin alternate ways of shifting gears. I still don't want to spend all that money for a new cable, due to the fact that the little piece of linkage that it needs would probably cost $5 if I found it. Here in MD, the governor has not been kind to the automotive recycler industry, and when I first discovered the missing piece, and went looking, I was disturbed to find I couldn't find ANY old Chevy vans to pick from. So there ya go. Not sure what works and what doesn't on the dashboard, never had power to it. Van is basically solid, and clean. NOT PERFECT, JUST PRETTY DECENT FOR IT'S AGE AND SUCH. If/when I got it running, I would have had the whole body redone and repainted, and taken care of brakes and suspension as well. I towed it, without the driveshaft, for approximately 200 miles, and it didn't do the boogie-woogie, so if it was running today, I'd drive it as is and add new stuff as I went. Tail pipes are off the car, but OK and in the back. Missing one turn signal. Just give it a new life. Tired of not getting around to it. I JUST BOUGHT A 1987 VETTE FOR MY GF'S BIRTHDAY, 6 RUNNING CARS ON THE ROAD NOW TO MAINTAIN, HERE'S A CHANCE FOR ALL THE VIEWERS AND WATCHERS OF LAST WEEK TO GET A BETTER DEAL. AT 1999 I'LL ONLY OWE E BAY $65 INSTEAD OF 120. LISTED LOCALLY ON CL FOR 2K AS WELL. 1ST ONE TO PAY 2K GETS THE VAN.
