Vehicle Detail
Super solid, classic 1989 VOLVO 240 DL Station wagon. This is the iconic VOLVO "brick" that most of us grew up with for many years. A hard-to-find ONE-OWNER 245 Wagon, it has lived its entire life in San Francisco since being sold new at the old Cole European Volvo-Saab dealership group in Burlingame, CA ( they have since relocated to Walnut Creek and became a Land Rover/ Jaguar franchise). Kept by the family until 2006 when it was replaced by a new V70 Wagon and basically put aside for the kids ( whom of course, wanted something "sportier"), and pretty much has just sat around as a spare vehicle until now. 140K original miles, and it runs as such. The super-reliable B23F four-cylinder engine runs EXCELLENT, without hesitation, knocks, pinging or odd noises. Always starts right up, idles smoothly ( as all B23s do) and cruises fine on the highway. The B23-F ( 2.3L BOSCH fuel injected) motors have an excellent reputation and are virtually indestructible. This wagon is an Automatic-transmission 245, with overdrive. Besides that, the standard Power steering, Four-wheel Power disc brakes and AC, it is very spartan in true Volvo fashion. It is a non-sunroof model DL, with manual roll-up windows ( truly!), manual seats, manual sideview mirrors and that is about it for frills. It IS, however, the desirable THIRD SEAT MODEL with the fold-away rear seat in the cargo area. The body of this Volvo wagon is very straight, with no dents or accidents, besides the occasional parking-lot ding. Its original Petrol-Blue finish has held up very well, except for an area on the hood where it has thinned from polishing ( I have a local estimate to have it completely stripped and refinished for $350, and it does not require bodywork, only refinish). The body is very straight, and completely RUST-FREE throughout. The interior is on better than average condition for a vehicle of this vintage. The front seats are nice and clean, with no tears, splits or undone seams, as pictured. The same goes for the rear seat and also for the foldaway third seat. Its original carpeting, door panels and original VOLVO rubber mats are all in excellent condition, with no soiling, wear spots or damage. This is and has always been a NON-SMOKER Volvo wagon. Clean CA title and a clean CARFAX report. All instruments, heater/defroster, horn and CD player work well. It also has Power door locks (centrally activated from the driver's door) and they work well. There are NO service lights on ( NO Ox, CHECK ENGINE, BRAKE or warning lights turned off or reset). In addition, it had brand-new tires installed in the front about 500 miles ago, along with a new muffler. Considering its vintage, This iconic Volvo 245 Station wagon is clean. Extremely basic mechanics and electrical systems unlike later models, make it very easy to care for and maintain. It is turn-key, WITHOUT issues and it runs very well, and will make a great traveler or runaround vehicle, as well as super safe. Feel free to EM or call with pertinent questions or serious inquiries. I can be reached at (650) 430-4660, no later than 9pm PST, please. * I reserve the right to end this listing at any time prior to the end of the auction, should a serious offer or a BUY-IT-NOW offer present itself. I am glad to assist with NATIONWIDE or OVERSEAS delivery at the most economical shipping rate available. I can do all coordination from here, and you pay the transporter cost directly to the shipper upon receipt of the Volvo. Should you be the winning bidder, I would like to receive payment within THREE business days, please. Cashiers check or Bank draft are preferred. Personal, business or annuity checks may be utilized, but must clear funds source prior to any transportation arrangements being made. Another option is a Bank wire transfer to the local CHASE Bank branch here in town. That expedites the process considerably and allows for faster shipping arrangements. Upon receipt of payment, I will mail the title and Bill of sale to the winning bidder. Finally, PLEASE be sure to ask any and all questions prior to placing a bid, and prior to the end of the auction. If you have a ZERO rating, you MUST contact me in advance, prior to placing any bids.
