Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my low-mileage, unrestored 1971 Honda CB 750 (K1). Aside from the earliest original sandcast machines, the K1 model is considered by many collectors to be the most desirable CB750. With 2700 original miles, this unrestored machine is in fantastic shape and is in the candy ruby red color, which is usually considered the most desirable color. (If you see anything that looks like lines / marks on the tank or sidecovers, these are only reflections. All painted parts are basically in perfect shape.) I bought this bike in 2009 from my wife's colleague, who was downsizing due to retirement. I believe the mileage to be original and bought it on that basis, as it was represented that way to me when I bought it and I knew & trusted the seller. Also the mileage seems reasonable based on the condition. I have no other further proof that mileage is actual but if you are in the Hartford CT area you are welcome to come by, take a look and judge for yourself. Since 2009 the following work has been done: Replaced all painted parts with NOS parts (tank, headlight bucket, fork ears and sidecovers, badges & trim - just before they became virtually impossible to find) NOS seat New chrome (pipes, front and rear fenders, headlight stalks) New rubber (tires, grips, pegs, fork boots) Replaced wiring harness with NOS harness Top end has been thoroughly gone over NOS petcock, carb air screws (hard to find!!) The bike runs great and starts right up on the first kick when it's warmed up. Needs nothing unless you want to polish up the engine. I didn't do that because (I'm told) bike-show judges these days prefer for bikes not to have patina and not look over-restored. I've never entered this bike in competition but I bet it would do well. It would be a great candidate for frame-up restoration if that's your interest - all expensive and hard-to-find parts are already there. Or you can just ride it and enjoy turning heads and starting conversations wherever you go. As noted, I replaced the painted parts with NOS parts. The bike's original color was Candy Garnet Brown. I have done my best to describe the bike fully and accurately, but as with any vintage motorcycle, I would strongly encourage you to come by and take a look before bidding. The bike is also for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early if it sells. The bike is registered to me but not titled, because Connecticut does not title bikes built before 1981. If you are from a different state and need a title, you should be able to obtain one in your state based on the CT bill of sale you will receive. Seeing about this is of course your obligation, but I have personal experience with this a few years ago when I sold a couple vintage bikes to owners in PA and DE. I'm selling because I just had a second kid and no longer have the time to ride and maintain it like I'd like.
