Vehicle Detail

For sale is a BMW R60/6 from 1976. It is complete and everything works as it should. The motorcycle starts up immediately with the electric start and runs well. It rides well for an old bike, but it will certainly need some work to be up to standard. The tires are new Continental's. The battery is not included with the bike. Mileage is extremely low for a BMW airhead of this vintage, at 12k. I have built numerous motorcycles over the years and am in the habit of restoring and selling machines. This motorcycle was bought with this aim in mind, but I've got too many motorcycles and not enough space. There is nothing wrong with the bike that is prompting the sale, so rest assured. I would have loved to restore this bike over the winter, but I have too many people asking me to build their motorcycles and can't take the time to restore one for myself. Not this year, anyway. The 1976 R60 is the most desirable of the small displacement BMW's of this era, as it features the exceptional twin leading shoe front drum brake. This braking system operated better than the newly introduced disc brakes of the time, and the twin leading shoe is a fantastic system. The R60 motor for 1976 was also upgraded internally from previous years, using higher quality components and stronger materials in the drivetrain, so that it would last in the larger displacement bikes. This means that an R60's motor and drivetrain are very well under-stressed. This bike will run forever as is, and can easily handle performance modi factions and increased power output via the use of high flow exhaust and air intakes, which are typical in the modern motorcycle scene. This bike would make an incredible restoration, "restomod", or a nice example of the sadly ubiquitous "cafe" machine. The seat is in very nice condition, no rust on the pan, no rust to speak of anywhere, really. This is an old machine, so naturally paint and polish are going to be recommended. There are some cracks in the headlight, but this bike comes with a replacement headlight bucket. There are some nicks, scrapes, cracks, etc. in various parts of the bike. There is nothing drastic or serious, I'm just disclosing this so that you all know what you're bidding on. The bike is not a concourse bike. It was used and is 40 years old. It will need attention and work. The cylinders weep oil at a very low rate, so a top-end rebuild is needed to make them perfect. Alternatively, the new owner could just use the bike and add oil every now and then. This is not what I would do, but I have pretty high standards for my machines. The motorcycle is a good example of a surviving, original bike. If I were keeping it it would be completely disassembled and restored, but this is just not in the cards for me at the moment. I hope whoever wins it will give it the future it deserves. Shipping will be arranged by the buyer. I would like a deposit via paypal if possible, but I am flexible. We can always talk about details regarding the motorcycle, condition, and payment. Just send a message and I will respond with a phone number and any other applicable information. Thanks for checking out the bike.
