Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Yes, this Travelall was in the movies! It appeared in the teenage adventure film "Ghost Ship". This family movie had its theatrical release in 1992, and then later on DVD. (Note: this is NOT the horror movie in 2002 by the same name). It's a fun story based on a legend that there is a Spanish Galleon filled with treasure stranded in the desert up in the Gulf of California. "Ghost Ship" was written and directed by James T. Flocker. The Travelall was memorialized in this movie when James needed a wagon to transport 2 teachers and 7 students on a field trip through desert. It is in many scenes throughout the movie. There are scenes of the truck driving, stationary and some inside the truck, too. The Travelall is even on the DVD cover. See my pictures, I’ve added a couple of screen caps from the movie. Robert was only the 2nd owner, and he bought the truck from California State University in Chico; it was a campus vehicle. I am the 3rd owner, and I originally bought this truck to restore. After I watched the movie, I changed my mind about repainting it. It looks exactly the way it does in the movie. I've even kept the original California license plates on it. I bought this classic in 2005, and store it in my garage when I’m not driving it. Other than the oxidized paint from the southern California sun, it is very solid. You’ll like how rust-free it is. The cowl/fresh air intake is completely rust-free. I’ve included pictures of the cowl and an under-dash that shows this. You can still the original green paint inside the front fenders. I’ve also included a picture under the driver’s floor and other underside picture to show how rust-free this truck is. There are only 2 very tiny rust holes in the entire truck. They are at the bottom rear section of the front fenders, and I’ve included close-ups to show how small these rust holes are. This Travelall has the 6 doors -- "barn doors" some people call them. It has the hard to find, 3 row seating. The seats are in good shape. There is only 1 small tear in the 3rd seat. The dark green is the original paint color. The body and interior are unrestored, original and unmolested. You can leave as it or it would be an easy restoration. There 2 brackets on the rear door for 5 gallon army cans. This truck is a 3/4 ton C1200 series and is 2WD. It has a powerful 345CID engine backed up by a 4 speed manual transmission, 1st gear compound low (granny gear), and a Dana 60 Rear axle. It is drum brakes, but they are big and it stops excellent. Tires are like new and have low miles on them, and are not weathered or worn. There are only 87,000 original miles on this truck, too! It runs smooth and starts easily hot or cold. It was upgraded to an electric fuel pump for reliability. The exhaust is quiet, the lights, signals, hazards, and all electrical is in good working condition. . The gauges work, but the fuel gage reads lower than actual, and the speedometer bounces around the speed you are traveling. All other gages work well. At 47 this truck does have a few flaws. It has the minor dings that I already mentioned. The right rear door closes, but not tight. Also the inside of this truck is mostly steel, so it does rattle as you hit bumps on the road. There are some small cracks in the rear wrap-around glass. I’ve included several pictures that show the close-ups of the dings and flaws so you judge the condition for yourself. I love these trucks, but I’ve had this one for 9 years and I’m ready to sell. I grew up in Travelalls. My dad always bought Travelalls in the 60’s and 70’s until they stopped producing them. He drove his Travelall to work, picked up a 6 man crew, filled it with surveying equipment, and then drove it to some really rugged job sites. After work, his tireless truck would transport our entire family everywhere we needed to go. On vacations, my dad towed a boat, or a travel trailer. He towed our camper cross-country, over the Rocky Mountains , and through the scorching desert -- Everywhere! This truck has a hitch and brake controller, and it’d look great towing a vintage trailer. I take this Travelall to car shows, and it gets a lot of attention. A lot of guys tell me how they like that the patina finish really gives it character. Everybody likes that it was in a movie. This is road ready and you can start driving this truck immediately. If you win this auction, not only will you be getting a piece of movie history but I think you’re going to love this Travelall. Of course you get a DVD copy of “Ghost Ship”. If you have any questions call me, or if you live close enough, come by, inspect and take it for a test drive. I’m located in Westland, MI which is near Detroit. My number is 734-716-0200. On Jul-15-14 at 14:15:06 PDT, seller added the following information: I forgot to mention I installed a rebuilt carburetor, new spark plugs, and plug wires this spring. I've added a short video that shows how easily this engine starts and runs on Youtube at: http://youtu.be/dMuAwifWIdQ
